ABF | Driver-facing Cameras

That was a daily occurrence for me. RARELY left the yard pulling a single. Triples were a weekly occurrence as well. One guy, three LTL trailers (one, usually a liftgate), and a 200-mile loop route daily! Ahhh....good times! In fact, I think I’ve talked myself into going back to work! (Cough)

Hey,..........Wait a minute!...........That's....that's......IRONY,..isn't it?

I used to be in the trucking industry,........and I think I can detect IRONY two times out of three........Sarcasm, even.........

....(.....although that might come with being married 42 years..)........

Sorry. Not trolling. Just reading your thread and found it interesting
But this has to do with the "dock" .
Before I left they put at least 20 HD cameras on the dock.
Some had microphones
I know one in the office did because the tm spoke to and the clerk replied to him through it.
Now I know this far from driver facing cameras.
But they will use them to cover their butts for what they can to limit their liability in this area also. The dock.
They are limited on discipline regarding dock cameras. But I can see them pushing discipline even in circumstances where they know they can't.
No one is safe. In regards to cameras.
There is no privacy unless your in the bathroom!
And I don't blame. Anyone for fighting against the driver facing cameras.
Total bs.

I dont like this, but there isnt an a right to privacy when operating their equipment. no basis for greivance as well. this is a no win situation. it is also not a condition of employment. its a safety feature. the real test is when someone gets fired for wreck, etc,,or tampering..

I don’t like it either. However this is ,without a doubt a “Change” in the conditions surrounding employment. There is no implied consent for your image or voice to be captured. As to Safety, the image or audible records have no Safety or preventative value. It does, however have the capability to defer or assign culpability for an incident or accident. The International should and will almost certainly address this issue promptly. (Hope I’m not too optimistic)If Safety was the primary objective, all units would be fitted with airbags (front and side impact) rather than concentrating on mitigating liability.

The union already told the company that they do not accept the inward facing camera or any discipline that may follow after the company refused to sit down & discuss this issue....

The issue of cameras on the dock,....or any company-owned space, other than private spaces designated.........is different than the driver-facing cameras....
....in that the truck-mounted cameras are being operated on public streets, in an environment the company can not control completely. Too many outside variables,...and....if used for discipline due to an accident,.....an outside legal source can subpoena the video.

Dock,...or company property video....is in an environment controlled by the company, on private property, with company rules. A Union contract would set the parameters on the use of those type of cameras.....and anyone working on the dock doesn't have to worry much about an....outside.....influence causing an accident.
Civilians coming to the dock for pickup could possibly steal something.........Supervisory personnel may steal or damage equipment.....Outside vendors could damage or steal something.......

Those could be the only justification for dock cameras........and those cameras shouldn't be used for.......discipline. You've hired good people,....Now , trust 'em......

Nothing to....."steal"......in the cab of a truck. Therefore, any "video" of a driver is SOLELY to eliminate company liability in the case of an accident.....Self-incrimination? Fifth Amendment? Fourth Amendment?

Even the thinly-disguised "Use for Training" argument doesn't wash.........You've hired the guy BECAUSE he met YOUR training standards........

......Or woman.......

(Frankly, I'm surprised some female driver for a non-Union company using driver-facing cameras hasn't contacted some gender-based law firm concerning her employer filming her every move.....).......

Creepy, huh?

So....that ends it then? (I hope the glass is that half-full!) Thanks for the info I knew it would be discussed, I didn’t know it happened already.

I’m sure there will be more discussion about it, the union is waiting until the yrc contract is settled....

Union and company are having a meeting on Wednesday April 24th

Which resort golf course will they be on?
A short 9-hole meeting,....or a full-blown 18-hole meeting?

Will the Private Chef be available mid-course to individually grill the Prime Ribs?

And.......Could there possibly be a.....video available for the rank-and-file to view?

Myrtle Beach, comes to mind!

You can bet the attorneys will accept the video after they issue a subpoena. Driver facing cameras only purpose is to find out if the driver has any blame in any incident. Be it 10% or 100%. They want to blame someone or not. Loyd's of London covers ABF after the first half a million. Maybe they are driving the issue. von.

Just put tape over it. Problem solved.

Ahh,....no. That's tampering.

But,.....I would highly recommend NOT cleaning the camera lens with any sticky, gummy solution,....which may degrade the quality of the video......
That's not tampering.....That's keeping your personal environment clean.......And we all like that.....

And,......as I stated before,....I WOULD highly recommend each terminal sign a petition stating that the company does NOT have the right to..."View, use, release, or sell".....your video image without the express, written consent of each of the undersigned....

And.....File them with both the company and Union........
