FedEx Freight | Looking To Move ...

I'd do Road but City will work. They always seem to be hiring which usually isn't a good thing.

Where do you via from? NH might work too.

City is busy consistently. Guys low on the totem pole typically see at least 5-8 hours of O/T weekly.

Extraboard sat a lot from January to the beginning of March but now it runs every night usually with a choice of a couple of runs.

Shortest road run is 246 miles with dock. Mathematically, 3 hours on the dock on a straight back run at starting rate nets over $75k.

I've seen a lot of hiring in the Boston area over the past few years. Is it due to turnover or expansion?

Lots of expansion combined with a largely aging workforce closing in on retirement.

Younger guys that leave tend to be city drivers that take the bait of owning their own rig or ones that get fed up with P&D work in a challenging area.

Thanks for the info. You seem to know more than the average road or city driver would about these questions.

I don't mind challenging areas as long as city dispatch and the planner don't have their heads' up their collective asses and put freight on a trailer that can actually get into tight spots.

What area does Abington serve anyhow?

Service area is financial district to the cape, to Bridgewater, out to Newton, up to Allston, if you can imagine that circle.

Downtown only gets straightjobs, the closest a pup/van goes to downtown is Seaport.

Our inbound dispatch/planner is like rainman regarding what he has loaded on trailers. City dispatch is also not down your throat about what you’re doing throughout the day, often when I was on city the only interaction I’d have with them was receiving a message asking me to do a certain stop next.

They are having a job fair this next weekend.

If you were hired as a city driver and after some time decided to switch to the road. Does your company seniority follow you?

Company seniority will follow you forever, however once you transfer to another terminal or off the city board you will go to the bottom of that specific list.

That sucks. So basically you need to know what you wanna do and stick to it.
Depending on the location. I have been on the bottom 3 times and always moved up the seniority list to a comfortable level. Always a city driver but I have known road drivers that have done the same. Short term pain for long term gain.

How long do you have to be at FXF before you can put in for a transfer? What's the process like? Does FedEx provide any assistance? I'd like to transfer while I'm still at the bottom of the list.

6 months, put in for it via internal computer. You get it if you have the most company seniority if there are multiple employees trying for the same position.

No financial assistance for the transfer unless you are salaried and even then it is dependent upon the position.
