ODFL | Layoffs

Still hearing alot of cleaning going on everywhere. Sad to hear.Alot of overhiring been going on the past couple year's.Also heard that Combo Driver's have lost there hourly driver Increase if they are not driving. Now that hurt's.I have saw the past couple year's that most dock guys don't want to drive. They just went thru the driving class to make that easy $2 extra a hour.

I personally think the new Tarriffs that went into effect in Jan is what is killing freight.Doesn't help with all the overhiring the past year.

Ain’t the world a great place, the only way for our economy to thrive is to allow other countries to **** us over with tariffs of their own and by neutering our manufacturing sector with cheap labor.

Our last rate hike really hurt us. Now another one in May?? I've never questioned out loud those who make those decisions but we are't even in the same ballpark with our pricing. It's the same answer everywhere you ask for more freight. "We would love to give you something but y'all are just too expensive."

The roads are still packed with trucks. Driver shortage went bye bye real fast. Owner Ops didn't go bye bye but got bigger. They bought more trucks and trailers last year and this year. Capacity, capacity, capacity. It's a dog fight now.

Never forget how much your od family cares for you when you’re down,,
Hey Billy, if freight is slow how come you guy’s are advertising the refer a driver program. I saw the paper hanging on the break room door next to the dock house this morning and lmfao. I thought about you going down to your local driving school and snagging about 5 of these graduates, make that bonus money. I’m still waiting for mine. I referred a driver years ago. He’s retired now. Does this mean that TS’s school of trucking is outta business?

You better go back and read that add again, he's looking for zero turn drivers.
Billy's concerned, since he heard you and Ump flunked your zero turn refresher course.

I said this something similar on another thread end of last year, that it felt like OD was staffed up and prepping for something. Sure looks like nothing at this point. But, I genuinely believe right now, if you read into what the stock market, fed and interest rates and even a little in the housing and auto markets ...lastly now the slowdown in freight, prior to election year ...may indicate we are officially entering an economic slowdown and dare I say, a possible recession starting by end of this year into all of next. I fear that could be the truth of what is on the horizon. But I hope, it prepping for something. I do think if we enter the next economic slowdown/recession we could finally see the demise of YRC, and even the demise of XPO.
Seen on another board Hou laid off some line drivers last week cuz we ain’t got much work, what’s it like in other parts of the country?
been home for three days going on four
