Anybody hear anything about a couple Detroit drivers getting 2 week suspension without recieving a warning letter from company about turning their trucks up? A buddy of mine out of my barn ran into his old slip seat meet man who he says is a real straight shooter and he told him that, just wondering if anybody has heard anything on the topic? It gets old having your doors blown off by all these guys all the time that have their trucks turned up but I really don't want to risk two weeks without pay.

Stating the trucks run too slow doesn’t justify tampering with equipment... If it happened like your buddy said, they may be lucky they didn’t get fired
 
They'll end up getting paid for the suspension .It's very hard to prove who actually turned the tractors up.
Do you think that is true with the computers in the newer trucks combined with the ELD's? I would think it would be much easier today than it was a few years ago? I am just guessing on this a mechanic I am not!

Me neither, If they deny doing it they will have a hard time proving it, especially if a city driver has been in it.
Even if the new computers immediately notify dispatch,safety or who or what ever, who is to say someone else didn't do it.
They will probably get hearing postponed and jacked around but I think they will eventually get paid.
Let us know ,you will hear about it.
 
To access the ECM a log in is necessary. Just like your computer. Real easy to track. And not all parameters can be accessed by all in the shop. The regular mechanic may be able to do a diagnosis but not change parameters. That may take a supervisor. Thinking all the company need to do is look at which shop guy changed the road speed and have a chat with him. Unless the driver has a stolen code and did it with his own laptop. I am not a mechanic but the guys in my shop informed me of this
 
I agree.... a time stamp should be on the system.... whom ever is assigned to the truck during that time....I would think be a prime suspect

I know the guys have it done over by the quad cities and also down by Effingham. i don't think that our mechanics would do it unless told to by a TM because I guy can't make his run doing 63 or something like that. I know it costs a hundred bucks and I also have driven a couple of them where it will go about 68 or 70 but if you let off the throttle and then smash it to the floor three times you can get them to walk up into the mid seventies. I ran trucks to Joliet for a while and got to play with a couple of those turned up trucks when they had to go in for service. Getting them kicked up can be tricky. I know we had two or three guys get their trucks turned down in the last couple weeks, one in Cincinnati and another in Detroit. I am wondering if now that they got their yes votes they are going to clamp down on this kind of stuff?

Some of the sterlings had a code to stop the automatic idle shut down.The mechanics didn’t even have the code. A bunch of sterlings had those jumpers on them where they would go over 70 mph. They would question us if mechanic caught it.Id just look at them like I was watching Jeopardy and say no kidding ,who the heck would have done that.
If the Detroit shop is Union it still would be almost impossible to prove.
Computers get hacked all the time.
They could blame the Russians.

I don’t know if you ever get south of Kentucky or Tennessee and I don’t have Facebook,but have you heard anything about some layoffs?
A buddy told me a few in Chattanooga, Sikeston and Decatur Alabama got laid off.

Remember the "Jumper Wires" we had for the Old Sterling's , talk about Giddy Up & Go and one driver got suspended like 3 times back in the old days of jumper wires ,before all this computer & ELD crap .................Oh yeah the good old days of fast trucks & faster women and when Truck Driver's didn't wear " SANDALS " :guiness:
 
Coincidentally, I did run across a Pete on 33 last week or so. Took me significantly longer to pass him than normal.
