ODFL | Layoffs

Watched a new young driver wallk past a 2018 just to get one of the bran new 2019's...yep, turn-key pretrip. They are really teaching them kids good these days. I think all our line tractors should be off limits to P&D unless it is assigned for the day from dispatch. I know at PDX city does not use line trucks unless absolutely necessary. But just to be fair, about 60 percent of our line guys do a turn key pretrip too. I'd be willing to bet one of our ex union guys did not know what kind of engine he had in the 2018 he drove for the last year or what color the anti-freez was, so its not always just the new kids. Billy you need to educate them

Aw come on Knucklehead, are you trying to make us ole union guys look dumb, or you rolling around in this much knowledge?
Maybe you will help me out, what pop pressure should I set on a 673 Mack with a Bosch pump? or the valve and injector setting on a NHB 600 Cummins or how many teeth on the ring gear on a 4.11 without a bull gear?
Does this 673 have nozzles or injectors?
I'm sure you can help me out, BTW, sorry I can't tell you the color of engine or anti freeze.

Man your talking cool stuff now.

I drove 2 different OD Columbia's where the damn driver's door came open going down the road. 1 when I missed a gear and found it, another on a pot hole. But I'd still take those over the new junk freightliners that can't hold the road or stay out of shop.
Best Tractor I have had since being at OD was a assigned 2757372.That tractor would stay in the lane.Last time I saw it was in Norfolk

Are you sure you were not driving a 9000White?

Breeze, not picking on anyone union or not. Yes I've been around too, 318's, 335's, 4x4"s first generation 13 speed's10 wheelers with 2 speed rear end. Just saying, not too many professional drivers left these days and when our era is gone, were gone and look whats left..folks that could not find jobs after 2008 recession and became drivers..just say'n.. we have driver out here in the PNW that was a driver instructor at a local school that taught inspections and was observed doing a turn-key inspection so just goes to show ya the way things are headed. Sad our industry has changed so much and so much can happen if you dont know the condition of your equipment.

Just pulling your leg a little Knuck.
Can't say I haven't been guilty, I left Charl. one day in my first Brigadier, stopped about 50 miles, when I was ready to leave, my lights were on hi-beam, I had to call Charl. and ask where the dimmer switch was located.
My next trip, one of our smart azz mechanics, had a dimmer switch taped to the steering wheel.

My brigadier interior was tan everything and had a nice little table on the doghouse that would hold a sandwich

KW no good in the city.I do like the 18 freightliner in the city.Turn's great and exhaust is gone.Blindside not a issue

My KW is a grass burner too, so I don’t have trouble blind siding on tight hooks in the yard, but it does turn like the Titanic. I don’t think I’d like it in city operation, except in backing. I like a truck that is a little slower turning when I back up. Not as touchy.

Knucklehead could just google that information Breeze and make you look foolish. All it takes is someone that’s willing to dig. But we are on TB so I wouldn’t concern myself too much.:emoticon digging:

The Brigs, PIE had on the west coast were so much nicer then what Ryder purchased on this side were so much
different, you would not think they were the same truck.
PIEs had 3406s 72mph, big HP,full screw, slide 5th wheel, padded doors, really nice
Ryders had 6v92s, 62mph pusher just a total different truck, our KWs were the same.
The 3406s we had, pulled no better than a 6v92.

Is your memory this good about everything?
