Estes | What do you Love about working here? What do you Hate about working here?

Hey fellow truckers here is my experience so far with Estes.

I been here couple months at Estes out of Houston, all I can say this is by far the worst job I ever had since I became a driver. The TM is a total yahoo who only cares about numbers and I quote he said we are going to train customers to our way. Here at this terminal they dont care about customers either for a pick up or delivery, palletjacks are crap and if you cant find one out there thats decent, drivers will suggest for you to buy your own.

Equipment overall is the crappiest even though they are aware of the rolling pile of equipment we got, management wants you to get out in 30 mins. When it comes to hazmat, apparently we are the number 2 on hazmat holds nationwide. We had a meeting with the safety guy who kept on saying refer to book whenever we pick up hazmat. Apparently now we have measure the hazmat description comes with parenthesis if not it will get hold and you will be slap with 3 days off.

Paper we waste so much paper is ridiculous, now that we have handhelds we should be eliminating all the paperwork required for lunch bring backs and the time you get in and get out of the yard. In regards to Hours older drivers with seniority are barely scraping 40 hours, since i barely got couple months in im averaging 34 hours a week and a day off every week. When I got hired i was told a day off would be mandatory a month but not every week.

Honestly Estes has the potential to be a great company, as long as we have these yahoos in management drivers will leave along with mechanics and customer service ladies will quit as well. Crazy thing we already in may every other major LTL is working every day and getting 50 hours or more a week at least here in my area.

I wonder if Mr. Estes even cares that most staff is leaving to other places instead of staying here.

Well here is my two cents in why I dislike working here.
That 2 cents is more like a dollar. My biggest problem with the company is over-hiring.Cant get drivers out of hotel or home, yet they continue to hire laid off drivers from other companies.

Central is busier than ever and getting busier by the day. We can't hire enough drivers. Just like every company we have our good and bad but I can tell you you will never sit home and your check will always be there at the end of the week. You will also make more than you make at Estes by quite a bit. Just a FYI. Good luck, I hope things turn out good for you guys, I have several friends over there

What’s the insurance cost over there? I’ve heard it’s high, but can never get a straight answer.

There is actually 4 different plans to choose from. They range from 25.00 per week to 84.00 per week for a single plan. Family plan prices vary depending how many dependents you have. It's not the cheapest but its definitely not the most expensive either. Hope this helps

Can anyone give me the details of our 401k, what is the company match, vesting period, anything else. Thanks.

Company match is half of up to 7%. I can’t remember when the match starts but you can start contributing immediately. It’s through Vanguard.

Really that's funny. Central Transport does not pay more than Estes. Not even on our worse weeks. That's funny. The average line driver here at estes is over 100k. Most Central drivers are not even clearing $70.000 in there best year. This driver is new at Estes a few months don't mean anything. And as far a freight it is slow every where even at Saia and at Old Dominion. The grass is not greener on the other side trust me. Hey I'm doing very well. I'm already over $45k here. So what ever Central Transport go somewhere with that. Central can't even do direct deposit. Go to hell

We dont do bunk houses and 5days gets old. Home every other day laying down is fine with me. They used to do it for extraboard guys. Greenboard they called it.

One thing makes me mad is midwest guy like me and they put me in northeast all week. Fck that no one wants go up there and why cant I stay in my region?
Estes does have freight that get you home everyday. It called a bid run. Evey driver can't be on a bid run.the driver with the higher seniority get this bid run first. You have to wait your place in line. Its the same way at Most LTL carriers.

Our equipment is not scrappy. We have new tractors and trailers plus new Dollies. I don't know. What your talking about. Maybe the problem not Estes .you sound like a complaining person that's just not happy anywhere you go. I don't know any perfect company out here. Just do your job. And maybe you'll see Estes really work out for you. Try that.

I think he was talking about p&d. Actually, the equipment is terrible for p&d! The pallet jacks look to be from the 50's. Not all, but some. Handtrucks as well. Yes, there are new trailers.

He didn't sound like a complain person to me. But you are entitled to your opinion. He sounded like quite a few city drivers. Hes new to the company, give him a break.

From the sounds of your last few replies, you may have had a few? Hey, that's your business but if you do work for Estes, be easy on the guy. He's new and a co-worker. Show some respect!
