R&L | Word Is, Bye Peterbilt, Hello Freightliner

I'm hearing that R+L is now switching to junk. Apparently, Peterbilt cant supply enough trucks or parts and Freightliner came in way under Peterbilt in cost per unit. Cant say Im thrilled with this but I don't own the company.
Dallas has put several in to operation and sent them to sanger. the front bumper is a real distraction. Many have been torn off and seriously now....R+L is not going to retrofit any of those bumpers. I prefer my Pete but if I ever get one I will treat it as I have all my assigned units. Until I came to R+L all I drove was peterbilt. Let's face it....R+L ran nothing but rebuilt junk for years and only because of the DEF additive did they finally decide to upgrade the fleet. This company use to have a passion for keeping it simple. One truck and they had the parts in stock. Now they have 3 different upgraded tractors. International....Peterbilt and now Freightliner? That's going to make it much more difficult to keep the right parts in stock for the right trucks. Not my problem. Pete builds a nice truck but apparently parts are becoming an issue. Who would have thought tat would happen.

dont forget Volvo!

We had those big bumpers on the new style freightshakers at OD. They took them off just because of the reason that they would be torn off in the city. All the 2019's we received had a shorter bumper on them at delivery. So they can be ordered that way. Only real issue is all the electronics these days. Some have had no issues and others had problems right out of the gate (if you made it that far). Only differencce in the interior from 2017"s is cup holders lower on the dash(not a good placement, cant see them in the darkness) and radio moved to a different location. The radio placement eliminates it from you seeing it in the mirror. If you drive in the rain, then get ready to be blinded using your mirrors. Rain circles on the side windows blocking vision in mirror. Freightliner has made a small louvered panel that goes on to the front section of the door that almost totally eliminates this issue but they do not come with them, your company has to order after the fact but, freightliner is fully aware of the problem and is redesigning the front window posts to try and fix the problem. Overall not a bad truck.

I'll keep my Peterbilt. LOL

My main complaint with Freightliner is that they have the well earned nickname of freightshaker. They vibrate a lot on acceleration. Dont know why they cant take care of that.

Like.most new trucks it beeps too much. I drove one the other day, if you didnt SLAM the door shut, as soon as you release the tractor brakes the horn would start honking and it would beep inside as well. So annoying.

Other than that they drive well enough, I like the interior. The stereo and all important cup holders are up higher and an in easier reach than .ost of trucks, which I like.

Seems like everything will make the 19 Freightliner I drive will beep at .....dump airbags, seatbelt not latched, door not all the way shut, lane departure, overhead highway sign immediate collision. I'm just numb to it now.

Yea, we have 4 new Intertrashionals. Two single axles and two twin screws.
Oh gawd. Trashinals. Dallas has continued to get a never ending supply of Pete's thank goodness. I prefer my 4.5 year old Pete without the bendix or ftc notices. All that noise in the cab bugs me. They gave me a new one about 18 months ago and I gave it back. I saw a few new single axles this morning too. No thanks. Most people that drive mine want it when I retire if that tells you anything. Keep the Pete's coming is all I have to say.

Actually it may only be 3.5 years since I got it but it's a 2016. Best truck in the fleet.

Totally feel the same way. Ive got an 18 Pete single. It does have the Bendex but I love my tractor. We are suppose to get 6 new trucks coming in that have a tax deal with the state saying they need to stay within CT. If they are Petes, Ill take one, otherwise no thanks.

Yes mine is a Texas only truck ALTHOUGH it is based in Dallas. Doesn't mean someone might not sneak off with it. Our terminal manager has really gotten truck snatching under control. I assure you....he will only allow truck snatchers one bite at the apple. Do him twice his his pitbull side will appear right before your eyes. He's a no nonsense guy. Do your job and you will not hear from him. I love what he's done in Dallas.

They appear to be quite serious about these state restricted trucks. I've got one as well as I did have a single but had to move to a tandem recently. I don't have a line driver assigned with me and my truck sits at night. One Friday night a driver whom I am friendly with used my truck. I had no problem with him using it. He's clean, respectful, and a non smoker so nothing to complain about. He got jumped the following Monday by linehaul dispatcher for taking my truck through three states. Guess the SCM reamed the linehaul dispatcher for allowing driver to take a state restricted truck. They must be monitoring them as I said I didn't make a peep about him using truck.

Do the state restricted trucks still have the Indiana plates?
Yes. They are registered for all 48 states and mine has a NY HUT sticker. It was explained to me that the company got a huge tax credit, ~19,000 per unit for the old Macks. The funds are coming through the states and the new trucks put in service for the old macks must do 100% of their mileage in the state where the credit was given. Doesn't make s lot of sense to me, but that's what I was told by someone in management whom I trust.
