Smithsonian channel is showing some excellent docs on it.
Even the months after the invasion. Which in itself was brutal.
These guys were all hero's in the real sense of the word.
It's thrown around so easily these days. Hero's.

If ever the chance exists, have a conversation. One can read every book on the subject, but the story from the lips is unique.

Those first hand stores are now, but a handful. Very soon, there will be none.
 
Although I never speak of my experience, as a combat vet, D-Day is the one that hits home closest to me. The absolute sacrifice these kids and young men laid down is beyond understanding. Aside of Memorial Day, D-Day is the day that always hits home for me. Gonna cut it off, I’m at a loss for words.

My Dad was there. Not sure if late Day 1 or early Day 2. Drove a truck ashore.
This was him in 1942. Age 20.
