New Penn | Largest Raise In Ltl History

Fedex drivers do not have the ins that teamsters drivers have . The ins alone is worth many $$$$ an hour .

What's the difference? I'm new to this world and I'm trying to make educated decisions. From what I see on the UPS thread, they have a hard time getting claims approved and reimbursed. I'm not too sure how that works at FedEx because I've only done physicals. What does Teamster insurance cover that my insurance doesn't?

Probably nothing but there's cost you nothing for you and your family. But if you are part of the central states pension fund you also have no retirement.

Central states has retirement, the future of their pension plan is in trouble and there are fixes being explored but people retired or retiring are collecting.

Yes I realize what retired people and retiring people are getting a the moment. I was speaking to steaker69 because I'm sure he is not retired or retiring tomorrow and if there are fixes being explored everybody will argue about the best way to do it until the end of time.

When I was a teamster for 23 years l had multiple visits to Chiro’s , Drs , vision & dental . Most I ever paid out of pocket was $25 co pay . On a total of just under $15,000 injections I paid $125 for multiple Drs visits . No weekly deduction , no having to meet $2,500/5,000 before in’s pays . Where I work now non teamster last year alone I paid $7,300 out of pocket before deductible was met.

Why did you leave the teamsters?

Why did you leave the teamsters?
I started when I was 28 and planned on working there until retirement but after the 15% pay cut and realizing that I'm not gonna get my pension I left after 15 yrs. The pension was the biggest reason I went there to start with and since I still have 15 to 20 to work I just decided for me a job is worth more than some free insurance.

Ok but $5.00 per hour pay difference at over 2,000 hours worked per year equals how much difference vs. free insurance and no future retirement??? Not to mention the uncertainty of union carriers...

Why did you leave the teamsters?
I thought I explained it . The commute was killing me health wise . Running 532 miles a night on my run and 173 miles in the car to and back from work . My body and Dr said you need to stop . Sleeping 3 1/2 -5 hours a day 4 days a week was not good and I was feeling it for as many years as I did it . So made the choice when a non union had an opening 20 minutes from the house . Just wished I had known how :shit:ty the benes really were . No one to blame but myself on that decision .

I only have 2 years 3 tops to go . So I take it you may be younger and do not use the benes like older drivers do . I really do not like spending my money on ins that is basically worthless . Then paying out $5,000 out of pocket every year . Not worried about the pension where I am . It’s in good shape . I have a great friend retired from ups who keeps me updated .

I'm younger, so I don't use the benefits. Unfortunately, that's become the norm. Pay for insurance only to be told it doesn't cover anything major or they'll get back to you in 6 months with a denial.

The insurance will come into play sooner or later since it is free for you and your family and it is great insurance at that. Not sure where you live but the central states pension fund is the only one doing bad I think. Just don't work for any yrc company.

My insurance isn't free. I work for FXF. I just landed here because New Penn is hiring in my area. I figured, what's the harm in looking into it .

I would stay at FXF because new penn is part of yrc and they only pay 25% into pension and im sure you want get laid off as fast when it slows down.

I will say FXF is really good at making sure we get our hours. If it's slow, dock workers go home, drivers work the dock at their regular rate of pay and they can't force us to leave before 8 hours. No more freight to move, grab a broom.

I have no idea what they add to the pension, but from what I hear it sucks. They do a 401 k match, which is also pretty weak. 100% of the first 1% and 50% of the rest up to 5%.

Well I have no idea what yours covers or doesn’t cover . But I do know by talking to some friends at Fedex Freight you have to meet a huge deductible before in’s starts paying . Teamsters there is no big deductible, no extra for wife & kids . Pretty sweet !

I'm not entirely sure either, to be honest. Medical insurance is one of the things my brain can't grasp. My deductible is about 2,000. It's high, but I've seen worse. I pay 11 a week for blue Cross blue shield. My son is covered under my wife's insurance and it's company paid for. I've only used my insurance for physicals. I don't know if it's any good when the SHTF.

So HOW many NEW Driver's are applying for the Biggest Raise in History ?????
Some drivers are leaving, Some are working at UPS they took a vacation and using that to work, hoping to make the list . is what is being told from drivers still at N P . Can you do that ?
