As a long time employee of XPO/Con-way Freight I have noticed that the image of our highly touted "global company" is seriously being damaged by the lack of care and proper maintenance of the rolling stock equipment. No longer are the days of drive thru truck wash services at FAC facilities and routine wash schedules for the trucks and trailers. Back when the XPO takeover happened in 2015 Mr. Jacobs vocalized generating global brand recognition the likes of UPS, well his brand is out there, but I can assure you they are by no means a UPS caliber brand. (i.e. rusty wheels, caulk patching holes on trailers, torn branding labels and trailer doors weathered and falling apart) So in closing I do believe as a company the pride in the XPO brand needs much improvement or we will continue to be just "the other guys" in the freight and transportation business world. Help me understand why we can't improve our image with more pride in facilities and specifically our equipment that is visible to the public day in and day out?

Simply cost cutting. The marketing of a low O/R to attract investors takes president. I say this as not a dig against Brad Jacobs but I don’t think he entered this segment of business because he was interested in running a trucking company and the pride of running a nice looking fleet. When he bought us he said we were going to get down to “ the bread and butter of the business”. Well that’s where we’re at.

Cost cutting:1904: only goes so far before analysts and everyone in the business begins to think there is difficulties in re-investing and caring. Well, sometimes image is everything when it comes to promoting your business and profitability. Let's just take a look at others, for instance Old Dominion was nearly off the radar as a reliable national carrier 10 years ago. They advertise regularly on national TV and have a very eye appealing rolling fleet of equipment that is very recognizable.

It’s not just the fleet but the lack of maintenance to the facilities is depressing. Is just shake my head and think how far we have fallen.

It’s to the point that it’s going to cost huge amounts to turn it around.
Yet Jacobs and the top few doubled their compensation just recently. You can’t help but think their bleeding this out.

They got to get their money now. This goose is about to die.

Lack of maintenance to facilities? You mean yards that are hell holes, doors you can't back a trailer into because the dock plates have been broken for a month, dock doors held up with straps because they are so damaged they don't go up OR down? How about the custodial services? Gone are the days of shiny floors and CLEAN lunch rooms and bathrooms. But, hey, maybe the managers are meeting their numbers.
Pension is unsustainable. Obviously facilities maintenance is too. But big salary increases and 200% bonus factor is not unsustainable. The BLEED has begun. Listen for "the giant sucking sound" (Ross Perot).

Write it in the dirt with your finger on a trailer...everybody else does.

This thread is such a laugh. Someone please tell me the last time a customer stuck there head out the door and bitched about how dirty the truck and trailer was?????? Now tell me the last time that same customer bitch about his freight being fu@ked up every which way from Sunday?
Taking pride yea right. Well taking pride starts with yourself. Do you look professional? Are you on the phone while making a delivery/pickup? Do you say thank you when making a pickup? Do you give a ::shit::? Do you care about the customers freight? I would love to go to some of these lazy ass dockworks house and handle their personal stuff the same way the handle freight because they are to damm lazy to get there fat ass of the lift. Do you know what "DO NOT STACK" means? Do you know what those red thing in the trailers are? Do you know how to write-up equipment? Do you know how to clean up after yourself ie: take you tash out of the truck?
I could go on.
In my years I seen some really clean and shinny trucks and then the door opens. What steps out looks like a bum that slept in box during a rain storm in the mud. So yes clean trucks looks nice, but to the customer what comes out of the trailer is all they care about and who holds control of that?????
So yea this thread is a joke.. WAAAAAAA my trucks dirty but yet you look like ::shit::, out of uniform, and talking to someone of the phone while at a customer.

They also have a management teams that know how trucking works and how to management it. We have wet behind the ears FOS and up that can only stair at a screen.

Some of my customers who unload their own freight off my trailer with forklifts do appreciate a clean trailer on the inside at least.

But otherwise, yeah you right. Some of the dock idiots we got are the laziest stupidest characters I ever done met in my life.
