ODFL | Accident

Evening news reported over the last couple days it was a 16yro male and 15yro female in the car. So sad, 2 families ruined for life. Maybe they should go back to the old days of driving schools and show these new drivers some of the grusome videos we grew up with. This new generation needs to understand driving a vehiclw is not the same as playing "grand theft auto" where if you wreck you get another chance to come back to life and do it all over again. Just a crying shame all the way around for all parties involved.

I think part of it is the lack of concern for others that manifests itself in other ways in our society in terms of disregard for rules. The way people treat each other in stores and parking lots is one example. Fighting over that last item that is the hot gift, fighting and racing for that parking spot that is 10 spots closer to the entrance. These people speed, tailgate, pass in no passing zones, race to construction merge, don't pull over for emergency vehicles etc etc. it's all about them in their mind. I feel like an old fuddy duddy saying these things, but our society has picked up a much harsher edge to it than it used to. Not saying this is necessarily what happened in this case, I wasn't there. However, listening to some of the locals describe how traffic is on that road, I wouldn't be surprised if recklessness or inattentiveness contributed to the wreck. Glad the OD guy was able to walk away from it.

I've been wanting to vent a bit.The LTL gig is hard enough.I know that. It isn't for everyone. I like peddling freight though.Maybe within 10 years I make a change. But for now I peddle freight. So every day after dealing with the terminal BS I get on the road. Traffic heading out traffic heading back in.Coming back is the worst. Most nights not just Thursday and Friday.Same spots.Same merge. Everyone acts like it's their first time or else try and reinvent the wheel. Or won't let you in.Gets old.I nearly lost it the other night. People are assholes.

Sorry.Just needed to get it out.Meanwhile any stupid move could end someone in an instant. It's always in the back of my mind.

Makes it tough to follow the old diesel drivers creed of turning the wheel to save someone else from their lack of skill or attention ala' Big Joe and Phantom 309. May be a cheesey song to some but it summed up the way my Dad and Granddad and their friends used to talk. They were a bunch of hard a**es, but they seemed concerned about those around them. I know the good old days weren't always good, but it seems that way sometimes, especially thinking about putting yourself in a position like this OD hand was in. If he even had time to react
