Holland over here in Knoxville is hiring drivers. Do you guys know if Holland has a refresher course for people who have been out of a truck for over 10 years?

YES , they will HIRE people right off the street , with Dock to Driver program .

YRC requires new hires up to 160 hours with a Teamster trainer. I believe Holland has the same program.
They might require (yrc) but I never saw them do it.
Just give em paperwork and expect them to know what a 20 year man knows.
And then make jokes how incompetent he is.
That's what I saw.

Why do you want back in?
Well i have a class a license and 2006 i stepped out of the big rig to do a class b job. The job i have now is a little more physical than this 50 year old can do as far as a long term occupation. I like being in a big truck just not being gone all the time, and i thought since Holland is just down the road maybe it would be a great fit. Ive met some guys that work there and it seems to be a good place. Plus the money i could make sure would be a help.

10 years ago I would say you were SOL, but nowadays I would say its probably pretty easy to get behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler after being gone from it for so long

It’s all up to the TM. The previous TM not so much. The current TM sticks to it

Ya.
TM.didnt care.
If the new guy was on outbound he was gone. Home. It was someone else's problem.
Usually the men he worked with.
I agree a new man should be put with someone more experienced.
Even if he worked for another company. Because we all do it differently.
We were all new at one time. Nice to have someone help and show what and how it's done.
But where I was at they didn't like doubling people up. Unless you were special. And we had some special people. Know what I mean?
I'm so happy to be retired from all that.
The work was easy. Putting up with all the nonsense and politics of it all just got to be too much.
There was a time before we merged it was different. And I understand things never stay the same.
But usually for the better
Yes. If you have a good smart tm they would understand the importance of doubling up new men with experienced men. Even for just a couple days. But I've had to show a guy how to put a dock plate in. More than once in a shift. Nuff said.
If Holland follows the basic rule.. Good for them. It's a good move.

Did you show him how to pull the dock plate straight up,get on the lift, and hit the bottom plate with the forks to knock it into the trailer?

Nah. I quit doing that when they put new plates in and they worked right.
I did mention that if he had any injury to blame it on a dock plate. Never fails.

Or the shadows..... :17142:
I'm not there anymore. But I can joke about it.
30 plus years of working there does not leave your memory in six months
I'm trying hard as hell to flush it out.

After all those years you go to sleep and dream about Holland. I've been gone 2 years and can't get them out of my head.
