Have we been sold out or is it a lack of participation of most of our drivers. I have ran out of four different union halls. If you go to a union meeting less than a 10th of the drivers show up. Over half the drivers couldn’t name a BA if I paid them. No participation =‘s no one is doing anything for you.

When the random testing started it scared most employees to start acting like saints and saints dont have a mean streak
 
I would participate in my Union if They participated with its workers.. Now, most locals and our Intl do not, When told our votes dont matter, we invoke contracts regardless, when companies and our Union work hand in hand to cripple us, I cant participate, just speak out.

I think I told the story before,.....that I was "black-balled"..and physically threatened, after being in a group that won an NLRB lawsuit against Ryder Systems, M & G Convoy, Volkswagen of America,....and the Teamsters......

Think I was angry and ....disgruntled?

When I was able to get back into the Teamsters after 9 years,.......I made a decision that I was going to be a vocal and active member,....
Never missed a meeting in 25 years......sat in the front row and...took notes........Stood up and complained and asked questions.....Became known as the "resident gadfly".......
Became the PAC Fund treasurer,....because Politics matter, whether you like it or not.......
Remained the same,.....in a Volunteer position,.....able to be thrown out, at the MEMBER'S pleasure,....for 10 years.....

And retired with about half of the Local members ....taking notes ...at the meeting,...and asking questions,.......Always about 50 people attending meetings (...poor, out of 2,300)....

But our Local(#30)......is one of the top ten solvent Locals in the nation, from what I'm told,......and they have millions in a "war-chest"...to fight arbitrations, grievances,....place ads in papers,....fight the Chamber of Commerce,.......

Because the members routinely question EVERY expense,....debate ALL fiscal decisions,....through 3 different Local Presidencies.....

........I retired from a Local Union I am very Proud of.......

Not everyone agrees,....there's "dissenting factions" running their own web sites,........But we are an ACTIVE and VOCAL Union,.....and the Leadership knows they aren't pulling any "funny stuff".....with our membership......

That's what it takes,.......I didn't do it,.....But,...you can show the younger members HOW to get your voice heard......

OR,.......you can show the younger members....."It's no Use, they're All Crooked...."

Believe it or not,.....You have a chance to make a.....Legacy,...of sorts......by your example.

You must also remember, laws have changed from back what we had in those days.
Things we did years ago, could put you in big trouble today, plus we don't have a huge majority of companies
organized like we had in those days.
A big strike today, your freight would be gone to the nonunion companies overnight.

We (Teamsters) had power when we represented a majority of the companies in the industry (LTL). Now we only represent a few companies and as Seabreeze states, a strike against one of them will only put more freight into the hands of the non-union carriers and further reduce what little strength we have left. Sad but true.

Put to me the best: "We are in preserve mode!!" That is how our Leadership runs Our Union.. An example to me was LME, following the CF plan.. Just shut the doors, file bankruptcy, owe no one... ABF or arcbest positioned itself to do the same.. ABF is just an entity, a stand alone company.. However still responsible for most revenue.. but a chess move to threaten our existence.

Well, then........as a chess move,.......I’d say that ArcBest’s ...”Queen is pinned”.......as it were....

.....(.....and I’m not making a deliberate reference to Ms. McReynolds....).....

If.......ABF is responsible for....”most revenue”....then it stands to reason that ABF’s workforce and contractual obligations carry a far greater weight,.....than the last several contracts would indicate...

It seems there is a .....deliberate effort......to downplay ABF’s importance to ArcBest’s revenue stream......
.....and thereby convincing ABF’s workforce AND Teamster negotiating team,......that they are of “little importance”....and should temper their contractual proposals accordingly......

Did this strategy work during the last contract negotiations? How many ABF employees believe that.....
.......ArcBest could survive without ABF?

Apparently quite a few.......including the Teamster negotiating team......

well said..i also now know that the cameras, facing outward are rolling and incidents being discussed. i am not technology smart, but thought these cameras only faced driver? am told its 2 way.

All you have to do is look at the new camera. You can pull it back toward you from the bottom, it’s on a swivel, and see the other camera.

I don't think you play much chess my friend. I have often jeopardized my Queen to get my Bishop into place for the Queen Bishop gambit.

Is it a forgery? ........a photo-shopped incendiary from the basements of Fort Smith?

Use of the Teamster emblem is a violation of trademark laws......among other things........

And.........if the Teamsters do fall flat on their collective faces,.....and reduce themselves to craven beggars.....

......there’s always the letters that employees should have filed with management, stating that the company does NOT have your permission to ....view, use, store , or sell........your private image.....without your consent, on a per incidence basis......

That would make it a legal issue,......a Fourth Amendment issue,....and, in light of the many privacy issues being reported in the daily news,.......I’m sure there are some lawyers who would take these cases on a “pro bono” basis.....
