2 trailers. 1 is 22655 the other is 19100. Combined 41000+ . No scale in their yard. Next driver behind me gets two empties headed back. Two DOT scales on way back. Am I super paranoid or was I in line when telling supervisor why risk it give me an empty and let next guy take 1. Supervisor went back and forth with me on it for a few mins but I got my way.

Ok, I’ll bite...where’s the problem??

At 41K+ lbs of freight you’re still under gross, and if you do get a weight ticket it’ll go back on that dispatcher/center anyways while you get paid for your extended time at the scales...although more than likely you would’ve made it back with no problems.

Yeah your right. But just as I assumed it would be risky it was. I scaled that trailer that was over 22k. It ended up being 21020 on my drives. So either way it didnt matter since I pulled an empty and keep in mind that's with my fuel being at half tank. Point being I was questioning it from the get go. Even if both of us took one trailer each I think that front box wasnt loaded right.

Red is right 41K is not not a problem but the lack of training/give a damn on the part of mgmt and dock is a problem

So did you cross the scale with 21,000 on your drives?

I wouldn’t of pulled it. Even though the overweight is all on the company if you were to get a ticket at the scale why mess around sitting at the scale house for hours waiting to get a twin screw? IMO it’s not worth the hassle. They kept over loading our trailers and the city guy that was doing a turn was sitting at the scale house waiting for 3-4 hours for the hub he was going to to bring him a twin screw. The hub is 20 miles from the scale. This happened to him 4-5 times in a 2 week period. Finally someone got it through their head and started loading them properly.

What state makes you wait on a twin screw?? Here in the southeast they’ll let you roll because we can’t slide the axles but you’d better get it fixed before you cross the state line, or hope the scales in the next state are closed or you’ll get a second ticket. We get paid for time at the scales, especially for things that are out of our control.

1) That's what poor people say.
2) Why not complain when you see incompetent management? If we as drivers screw up were held accountable. Should management not be held accountable for their mistakes?

$ does not equal richness, sir. You have a lot to learn.

No problems with taking issues to management as all issues should be but to sit back and bash people is another. There is a right way and a wrong way. You are doing the latter.

More drivers should enter management. Be the change!

I don't know any truck drivers who are "rich". Please refer back to my previous post why in the hell would a road driver take a 50% pay cut to join management to put in same hours and not get listened to when they want to make the "change" you speak of. Here is a novel idea hold management accountable for their mistakes.

You say management isn’t listened to but this thread and many other threads are about drivers not being listened to. Which one is it? I am confused.

Geez and you say I have a lot to learn. How many lower level managers do you know that are making noticable changes at any given terminal and the tm is actually implementing those changes? You want him to switch to management, don't know any drivers that have switched and went straight to being a tm. :scratchhead:

You're pretty lucky. In the west, you sit at the scale until it's legal. I've seen many times a crew with a pallet jack and trailers butted up transferring to be legal. Not really smart to roll being overweight.
Here's another wrinkle for you. What do you think would have happened if you were involved in an accident? If you think any lawyer worth his salt wouldn't make a huge deal out of your equipment being illegal and unsafe, you're crazy. Why management ignores the fact that they are exposing the company to that amount of liability is beyond me.

You are exposing yourself to liability if you knowingly take an overweight vehicle off company property, and on public roads.

Agree 100%, and luckily we have a working scale on our yard...I was speaking more on what’s been brought to me/us in the past. We’re at the mercy of the other end when your meet driver brings you trailers they didn’t scale. We had a driver recently who, according to the bills, had a 16K pound trailer but according to the scale master he had 21K+ on the drives and 19,6??k on the trailer axle!! By my math, that’s about 10K pounds of unmanifested/reweigh freight that no driver would’ve scaled before leaving!!
