I had some safety latch where the latch and cutlever had been designed to meet on an angle so the latch did not need to be moved out of the way which means the safety latch was more of a reference device

i do not want to continue to reach under these grease filled fifth wheels and trailers. Wrecked many gloves and I am looking for an easier way, kind of like the UPS drivers, they all have the pin tool and countless other drivers from other companies have it too.

Years back, I pulled a set daily on a rural peddle, breaking and hooking it as much as 5-6 times a day. TM would ask me when I came in at end of day, how I stayed clean? Just work smart, and you won’t get dirty, or hurt...

A dock hook is a good bet. Get one and take a hammer to the hook end and bend it down a bit so it doesn`t slip off the pull handle . It also gives you some more leverage.
