--My very first disciplinary letter, dated 11-23-79, less than a year after "making the list".
--A letter dated 2-12-80, from (then district manager) Mike Wickham commemorating our district's safety achievement in Roadway's 50th year.
--A copy of a P&D Performance Log from June 1982 (filled out by me and "corrected" by my supervisor, LOL).
--A copy of a Roadway freight bill dated 3-28-88.
--A copy of the cover of the Roadway Spotlight magazine from October 1988.

i have about 20 tractor door decals ROADWAY EXPRESS , found them in the dumpster when the albuquerque shop was being cleand out for the last time .

The Roadway add is from 1988. The address says Camp Hill, Pa., I thought they moved out to Carlisle, Pa long before that. Anybody got an explanation for this? $15 an hour, almost what they are paying now.

I worked at Saint Johnsbury in Camp Hill from 1983 until they closed in 93. Big R was down the street from St. J for a few of those years. Can't say for sure what year they went to Carlisle.

Roadrunner, where was St. Jay at in Camp Hill? I remember Motor Freight Express was across the street from linehaul, you may remember Roadway had two facilities, linehaul and the city/dock were separate. New Penn was down the road. Did St. Jay move into the old MFX terminal?

St. J was in the old Motor Freight terminal. New Penn is in that terminal now. I recall Big R line haul being across the street & the dock was a little way down Industrial Road(?) on the right side.

Yup, that's right, and New Penn was down beyond that. I used to run into some of the St. Jay guys at Esthers Diner on old 22, couldn't hardly make it past Esthers without stopping. My favorite diner of all time.

Edit: Do you own a Roadrunner?

I wish I did, that would be worth a few bucks today! I have not been in Esthers in a couple of years. Been going west these days.

Well you don't have to worry about UPS going away any time soon. Hope you make it. I hired on at Roadway in 75 and retired about 1 1/2 years ago at 59. Haven't worked a day since and don't plan on ever working again. I can't understand these people that retire and then say they have to work or they'd go crazy. I don't miss working one bit.

Wife and I bought a place in Florida. That's the retirement spot in about 5 years. I think I may want something PT but nothing to do with a truck ever again! I wish you a long and enjoyable retirement.

I cut my teeth at the double diamond in Lebanon pa. 200 Narrows drive. 83- jan 86. :guiness:

Double Diamond was rid of the old DF 860s with the 471 Detroits, when you arrived on scene
We ran 860s with high HP 671s and hydramatic trans. (note High HP)
Akers Motor lines were also in the way with their 4 bangers.
I think you had crackerboxes with 671s.
This was in Charl,1955, McLean was next door.
