ODFL | Any Chance Of Getting Hired In Indianapolis As A New Cdl Grad ?

I understand what you are saying, but 65, or 70? So what. I don’t think 5 mph makes any difference.

I understand that 5mph seems pretty inconsequential. Shorter runs sure. On longer runs it can shave of 20-30 minutes one way. On roads that are marked 70, it means not holding up traffic. It also means not snail racing or backing down to run slower to avoid a snail race. Even driving a 68 was nice to pass promptly. Otherwise, I get it and agree with you and the company. Mostly want one for those long runs. Drove a 70 before. Makes a big enough difference in my eyes when doing 560+ miles, and the fuel economy, at least in that truck compared to ours so its whatever. I like OD, nothing will change the 65 truck, so its whatever.

Speed made absolutely no difference in our fleet, we had a minimum running time that was very generous, you
could make running time with the worse truck in the fleet.
We had some 62, 65 and 72 mph tractors, but it was always nice to catch a 72mph one and harass the Carolinas and Big Rs, poor old Cornflakes would run only 55 mph, were left in the cold.

So what if the National speed limit went to 75? Or 80? Would you then want to run down the road at those speeds? With a set of pups? So you aren’t holding up traffic? Sorry Moose. I’m not buying it to save 20-30 minutes. Be safe out there. Thanks.

I'll bet you can remember, Big Rs Roadbosses ran 72.

Mine only did 59.5 on p and d, and no A/C.

Naw, I'm content with 70. I've ran 80 out in Idaho and Wyoming. Wouldn't want to blow a tire at any speed, let alone 80. Anyways, like I said., clearly cool with 65, just don't understand why you give guys a 70 for a long run, but then have us do it in a 65? Give us a 70, or scrub the long run is my thought.

So how much money, and time a day are you loosing driving a 65mph truck, vs a 70 mph one? A friend wanted me to ask.
When I was in my 70mph tractor on the 634 mile run i would get it done 40 mins faster than a 65mph tractor. My run now at 592 miles in a 65 mile tractor takes the same amount of time as the 634 run in a 70mph tractor. I'm losing around $140 a week between the runs.

So your bid is now a run that is 592 miles. Did you lose your 634 mile run because you didn’t get the bid on it? If so, your not losing money because of the lack of a faster truck. Shorter miles per week. Truck speed has nothing to do with it. Be safe. Thx

Yes I lost the bid but could have kept the same run just different start time. Truck speed definitely plays into how much you're making on the hour. Yes I'm making less because it's shorter miles but I'm also making less on the hour because of the tractor speed. My time is valuable!

Can't be worth much, truck drivers are a dime a dozen!

When I was running 70mph i would gain 8 mins every two hours compared to a 65mph tractor. That would come out to a $5.37 difference on the hour. If our tractor was deadlined and we had a slower truck it definitely made a difference on time and time equals money!

Made absolutely no difference to me, cause ours didn't run that fast, except down long hills, couldn't
find many between Charl and Fla.
I meet Charlotte every night. Plenty of hills running down I-75 through Kentucky. I'm at least diesel trucking part of the time!

I've had some 70mph team tractors passing me. I wonder if corporate is testing letting those tractors run fast?

I can see where that could make you run late, may cause you to miss a work shift at BurgerKing.
