The "rating" system is gone. The "34 hr restart" is now active which is NOT used here at Local 135. Didn't the new YRC contract allow for the 34 hr restart along with 70 hr vs 60?

It’s always going to show the 34 hour reset because logs are federal. It doesn’t matter what company policy/contract negotiation there is, it doesn’t override federal regulations.

The 34 hour restart is NOT mandatory.....as far as the dot is concerned anyway.....for anyone. Its a setting in the app that is locked to the end user in our case. You can see it in the settings and it was correct to begin with. Now its not.

It is voluntary, you don’t have to use it. It is a federal DOT law you can use it so the ELD uses the 34 hour restart. The old ELD‘s did the same thing. The DOT cannot give us a violation because the company doesn’t use it. If the 34 hour restart wasn’t on our ELD it would show a violation if u ran over the 70 hour 8 day thing. That’s why it’s turned on. If you think about it, it makes sense. Using the 34 hour restart is only a violation to the company‘s policy, actually teamster policy under our contract.
 
I’ve stated before,......the non-Union truckload carriers “require” their employees to use the 34 hour re-start.

The companies “tell” the employee when to use the re-start, to maximize their HOS available,..so they can get as much as 82 hours in an 8 day period....

The ruling where you can only take the re-start between certain nighttime hours,...merely put a tiny block on the non-Union’s abuse of whether this option is ........voluntary,..or “mandatory”.

Both of my sons in trucking started off 15 years ago working entry-level with some big-name carriers,.....The 34hour re-start was brand new,....and it didn’t take long for these carriers to figure out a way to.....squeeze more hours out of their employees.....
Both of my sons were .......”told”.......at several carriers......when to take the re-start......

As stated above,....the Teamsters have elected to......recommend their members NOT to take the re-start option.....

If guys see what happens when companies......using Employment-at-Will.......forces guys to.......”voluntarily “ .....use re-starts....then it becomes clear why the 34 hour re-start option became law....

It benefits the COMPANY........and, in some......rare......instances,....an employee or two....

I don't think that recognition from your employer for a safety milestone would be controversial.......That being said,.....any employee could, in theory,...tell their employer they do NOT want public recognition.....

If you are an elected or appointed civil servant, or politician,...or in management of a company,...then by definition of...."accepting"....those positions, you are in the public purview.....This is why wealthy people have "spokespersons" or publicists,...and corporations have Public Relations departments....

But,....a private citizen has a Right to Privacy....This is why news stories sometimes say "an anonymous source..." . The private citizen has chosen to be ....private....

On a second note,......Posting of..."company standings" for safety.....using company criteria to determine who is "safe" and who isn't,...and with no oversight from the Union......
....can create an arbitrary list of....who is the company "favorite"....
And,.....if the company .....elects to "reward" those on that company-criteria-determined list,......then you've created a condition where the company can "pick and choose" winners......

What happens when a company can......pick it's own winners, with NO oversight? Then you can create a class of company Toadies,....who will do ANYTHING to "get on the list"....if the rewards are great enough.....
.....like say...extra time off,...or monetary rewards,.....or choice of equipment over and above seniority....

There's many a guy who would....."volunteer"...to wash a car....or mow a lawn or two,...on their own time,...if they knew they would get....."rewarded"...by management......

And,....this goes back to why Unions were created.......Everyone goes by Seniority,.....not by "favored company status".....which,..in My Opinion,.....degrades a fellow's Manhood......and silences dissent.....
