former preston drivers

Still alive in Detroit (204). Answer to the question about the 100/200 numbers. All 100 terminals were Eastern Region, All 200 numbers were Central. PS, I was lucky enough to make it out to Preston MD, got to drive the Batmobile around the lot. Ugliest Brigadier I ever saw, but it got great fuel mileage!

There still is a Preston forum in " The Trucking Boneyard " area. Check out the Hanks Truck Pictures website, its great! They even have the Batmobile somebody mentioned.

They were but Old Dominion bought the land and tore the facility down. Estes moved down to Holland's old terminal in Greenwood. Holland in turn, moved into the old Roadway terminal on Tibbs, not too far from Preston's terminal.

Sad, the last post here is 8 years old. I had 25 years at Preston. I started in Dubois (120) in 1974. From there to West Middlesex (125) until it closed in 1997. Finished the last 2 years in Pittsburgh (107). None of us realized how good Preston treated us until we had to move on to another company. I was a steward at all three of those terminals and we never had any major problems. I was one of the lucky ones and went straight to Yellow in Richfield from Preston and never missed a days work. It was quite a shock going from 25 years and 5 weeks vacation to bottom of the pile and on call. The Yellow road dispatch system, at the time, was a good one. After about a year, I was able to work pretty much when I wanted and go where I wanted. Western Pa. just cut my pension by 30% but life is still good. I retired in 2004 with 30 years. We bought a condo on the lake in 2015 and now just do the old people stuff. I'm thinking I wrote this for therapy and nobody will ever read it. It's hard to believe it's been 28 years since I drove 20173. My last trip was a Baltimore turn out of Pittsburgh along with Walt Marzolf.

Nice to hear someone else appreciated their job, I started with Ryder Truck Lines in Charl, in 1955, was still there when PIE closed the doors in 90.
I was offered a job with Yellow in 90, but decided to not start over, I retired.
Don't think I made the wrong choice, PIE would spoil you, couldn't ask for a better work place.
Sad to see what the working guys have lost today.

My dad drove out of Indy from the very beginning until the very end. Some of the guys got together as recently as last fall. Sad that quite a few of them have passed.

LMAO, still kicking here. Now 11 years with Roadway and 9 more with Holland. Couple of more then I'll be doing the retirement thing myself. Sure do miss the 151 line. Had a great job there.
