XPO thread had a discussion about 2 piece dollies. Got to looking at some of our new ones and they look like two separate pieces as well. These are pics of a 2019 Hyundai. It appears the toungue assembly is separate from axle assembly, held together by 20 bolts. Five top and bottom, each side . Never saw anything quite like it. Anybody have any idea why we went to this style. Is their a weight or cost benefit?

Because all those Great Dane dollies were one solid piece and in less than 6 years the frames rusted and tongue fronts wore down enough to be dangerous, and they had to be scrapped.

I miss the ones with the springs mounted sideways under the fifth wheel. They were light and easy to move.

I'm a city guy now , haven't dealt with doubles much for 7 years. Didn't know it was an issue. Thanks for pics, learn something new every day. So they just replace toungue assembly when worn I would assume, pointle hook looks bolted in as well on the Hyundais
No weekend linehaul runs for you?

No, I actually do run on the weekend when I can. Almost always a long box though. Pulled two sets over the last four years or so on weekend and they were both the newer all galvanized Joe dogs . See tons of Joe dogs on the yard , just never looked real close at them anymore

What's with the two piece dollies? There an issue with them we should be looking for during our inspections?

No real issues I'm aware of. XPO had some they had trouble with apparently but they were a different design than what we have. They're just something I had never run across before.
