Hello, I'm a newer combo driver. I'm curious how the job is at other terminals. At mine, we appear to be at the bottom of the list. If work is short we are the first lose hours and often do more dock work than driving.. "dock work pays less"
 
That's how it is where I'm at. They will do their best to get you the hours or miles but if there's no work there's not much you can do. Most of our combo guys will come in late afternoon work the dock, do some switches in the city or run a short shuttle run if there's any left over hub freight that didn't make it on the schedules.
 
Combo drivers at a big barn fill in for scheduled drivers. Small barns they do anything and everything. Idk how to operate a forklift. Glad I work at a big barn
 
I’m a combo I work city never on the dock and put in 50+ hours usually. But if needed they could ask me to do anything. I’ve seen another combo guy be asked to fill in as jockey. And I’ve seen another guy fill in for a line haul run. Other then that we got combos in city who want to be there and combos on line haul who choose to be there.
