XPO | Operating Ratio Improves At Xpo Logistics

This week we got a video on the company’s numbers for the last quarter. The narrator said that corporate OR is in the 80’s somewhere. After the video I asked our scm what we were operating at locally at our barn . He said we’re operating at 73, the best we’ve ever done at our place. Wow I responded that’s great. It’s good to hear that all of our hard work is producing outstanding results and profits.so I get to stay with a company that has a future and consequently I won’t have to search for another job, collect my Conway pension soon and be somewhat secure. yeah, hard work does reap dividends.

I hope that's not sarcasm and you really are in a location with a positive environment.

Some management types have been completely unable to deal with the new direction ( and leadership style ) of XPO. Those without spines ( yes-men , ass-kissers , afraid-to-think-for-themselves ) - these folks have struggled horribly.

The result is lies , lies , and more lies from local management. At least the bad ones.

The way this is written. It feels like sarcasm. Like icuicp, I hope that there are terminals out there where everything is great.

I wonder about that sometimes myself. There are perhaps 20 regular posters and almost 300 terminals. The views on here represent less than 10% of the entire company. You here things through the grapevine at the FACs or at meets but how much do we really know?

Not sarcasm at all !
Most guys here at my barn have real legitimate beefs with the company from time to time over the way things come down with management, myself included. Yet I chose to take the bad with the good and rejoice when good numbers are posted. The way I look at it...management is in a very tough spot with pressures from above to strive to get those positive numbers. Running any business is not easy. Running a profitable LTL biz is really hard with all the competition out there. Saia just moved into the area and is grabbing market share all over my peddle area. If it therefore means that I have to deal with pooh pooh on a stick from my local management team from time to time in order to achieve those good numbers, then so be it.
Why do I revel and give an ‘at a boy’ to my scm when he gets good numbers... let me explain? Years ago I worked for a regional carrier in the very same barn that I’m in now that Conway bought and expanded into in 1994. This regional operated at this terminal in the low to mid 70’s but because of various issues, recession, union, lawsuits, mismanagement, etc... the company went belly up. Soooooo, I feel good when things for the company are good cause that means at least for now that I won’t have start at the bottom of another seniority list at a competitor LTL at my age. I just want to finish here at xpo, retire and be done.
Maybe some of you have issues with corporate, local management, etc that are real roadblocks in allowing you to see the company in a positive light... I’m with you on that, like I said from time to time I have problems too, and don’t begrudge you of your right to feel that way. I guess I just can’t help feeling good about the company from time to time when we’re blessed with good numbers are when they come and seeing them in the context of my past history in the LTL biz.
Just my 2 cents, ok a little lengthy , 25 cents.

I am happy for you, driver. I know xco is just fine. But I am also well aware of the terminals that are struggling. And it is concerning. Certainly don’t feel comfortable gloating when there are guys being laid off and economically terminated. However. Truly great news that it not all bad out there.

I'm glad it's not sarcasm an it's all good.

I guess it bothers me when management that has been here long enough to know better ( phoney numbers , anti-customer money-grabbing policies , ignoring the LTL circle of life , etc...) management that could do something , won't do anything , except follow orders ( even bad orders )

Even with that said , I love my job. Looking at the big picture , as of now I could not recommend a new person go to XPO in good conscious. For new people , it's a terrible deal versus what's available elsewhere.
