n a letter sent to YRC’s insurance company, Stephenson’s attorney explained that in addition to the more than $160,000 in medical bills, “a modest future-pain-and-suffering award on a per annum basis would push this verdict well into seven figures” given the fact Stephenson likely has “decades left to live.” Citing the insurance policy of $6 million in liability coverage, attorneys offered to settle the claim for $900,000

Seems to me that YRC's insurance carrier dropped the ball on this one. Why not settle out of court for $900,000 rather than risk a jury trial ending in a $2,000,000 loss?

I read that as YRC's insurance companies attorneys offered the 900g and the plaintiff turned it down.
Maybe I'm wrong but I read it just the opposite. The way I read it is that the plaintiff's attorney offered to settle for $900,000.
