What does anyone know about the two in the new contract. I have been hearing stories about terminals not clearing the board till Tuesday and even Wednesday in places especially down south like Memphis but no layoffs. Someone told me this week that in the contract if they have layoffs they can not use purchased transportation to haul loads and that is why there have been no layoffs. Does anybody know anything about this? Someone else told me that if they have so many weeks where guys do not get full weeks of work it has consequenses also?

They asked for two guys to take a voluntary layoff for next week because of the gm shutdown, two old guys took it. Haven’t told any of the casuals to stay home yet so it must not be that bad.

Maybe everybody shouldn't been so quick to vote YES again & again & again and they didn't read the fine print ..........
They only let me vote once! I actually think this is a very good thing if true, but I don't know if it is true?

I believe that by taking the volunteer layoffs the drivers are actually letting the company continue to use purchased transportation. It sure would be nice if we had some real high quality Union leadership that would stay on top of this stuff and keep the members informed! If this is true no one should take voluntary layoff and let them off the hook!

I don't know much about the Road driver side of the new contract because I'm a city driver, but I do know that there is

I believe there's a couple things at play with laying road or city drivers off. I'm a city driver so I didn't pay much attention to the new road contract, but I do no there is a lot of new graduates in the system from the Holland school of trucking that don't have to pay their 5000.00 tuition back to the company if their layed off. Since our terminal started their own training program and hired box truck drivers they have completely eliminated all the outside city cartage and the invoices that came with them, which were ranging in the neighborhood of 80 thousand a day in some cases. I don't think the company wants to take any chance of going backwards with its work force. As far as purchased transportation is concerned, the only lane they run out of my terminal is Atlanta, from what I'm told that is a lane that our drivers can't make without a relay. The terminal manager told me when we first started using them that it was very expensive to use them and it was more of a service issue. I think it's been about 10 days since we've used them. Hope this helps.

Faster trucks get more work done faster.

I counted around 500 Purchased Transportation loads go out of 309 YRC Freight last month that is just one terminal! While bottom extra board drivers sit at home shame on the Union for allowing this crap and members voting yes.

55 stay alive.....

Go back to the old style brakes.... so you can not stop so quickly.

That will slow down some.... clear the road of the super fast ones.
How about common sense. Like when you're climbing a hill at 40 mph behind a guy who's climbing the same hill at 39 mph. You don't jump out in the hammer lane in a 70 mph zone to drag race the guy in front of you at 39mph. Maybe it's just me ,but dumb **** ery is dumb **** ery. Oh and why would a douchebag in a 62 mph governed truck get in the hammer lane to pass another truck even on a flat section of road? Stay in the granny lane or pull it over on the shoulder.

Can’t like this enough. And if schmucks would quit driving with their high beams on, we’d be on to something. Smh

"high quality union leadership" is an oxymoron...

Faster trucks can cause wrecks faster too....

You're right. Every other company can hire drivers that blow our doors off but Holland driver's can't drive at legal speeds. If that's the way you think of Holland drivers, unable to drive the speed limit, like all the other LTL's, better close the doors.

There is just a bit more to running a trucking operation than having trucks run at 65,or 70 mph....
