XPO | Little Stuff...

It makes as much sense as cutting everything else. E-deck system unusable. No shrink wrap. No wheel chocks. We are running out of trash cans. No paper towels. Bring your own toilet paper.

How close are we to the end ? Sure feels very close. Look at other companies closing shop. It’s not helping us any. Where is all that freight going ? While we keep losing customers ?
It's a bit of a long video , but intelligent people see the comparison between Circuit City and XPO. Both number 2 in their respective industries. Pay attention at the end why they say Circuit City failed.

The focus turned away from what made them successful in the first place.

Doesn’t that all sound to familiar ? Great post.

History of yard dog truck manufacturer , Ottawa Steel. Includes examples of employees pulling together to save the company

Gets kinda commercial-ly towards the end ( still informative though )

Xpo did not build on what the Con-ways were. They road the good reputation till it wasn’t enough to get by anymore. People (customers) see through it now. Executives that were leftover wanted to believe and convince others nothing’s changed . They had to sell it to everyone and then their time came. The regional Con -ways are gone and their reputations destroyed. It is gone and never will be restored. Many great employees are gone. Some still linger. Some are still loyal hoping it will be great again. All now know better and have learned a lesson.

What's the point of organizing then? If this company sucks and will continue to suck then it's just going to suck, right? What lesson have we learned?

You hear drivers say Ann Arbor is a phone call away ( I'm looking at you Highspeeds )

Out of curiosity , who exactly is everyone calling that is SO effective?

I have to admit that when things have gotten dicey , I've been fortunate enough to resolve issues before having to call Ann Arbor.

When it all goes south. When it looks fubar. When your local folks need to be checked. Who do you call?

Now , I've referred people to Ann Arbor numbers that are posted in various locations in their terminal. But , if their is a homerun hitter , git-er-done type , slam dunk person that you should call FIRST , please share with the rest of the class.

I've often wondered how effective calling Ann Arbor can be when you see the rest of the folks in management - if management where you are is THIS bad , can Ann Arbor be much better?

P.S. I get that , in a lot of cases drivers are referring to calling linehaul when they say Ann Arbor - but share anyway , it might help the next person.

Exactly. If on the road. First call line haul. You get some kid. And he tells you to do whatever management told you to do. Linehaul won't ever make a decision. But you get the name. To prove that you followed chain of command. Then you call the safety director. Then you call your regional. If you are in the city. You don't need line haul. And this may all take several days or even the course of a week to do. But you keep moving up the chain. Playing by there rules. And you let it come back down in it's own time. And when it does come down. You won't ever have another problem ever. At all. It's not a perfect system. But it does work out. There are no slam dunks or easy fixes. It's a bunch of children making poor decisions. You have what you have. And that's why so many drivers don't wanna work here. Even if they do address what ever the problem was. It's going to be mess anyway. You can't fix stupid. And there is so much foolishness. You might fix one problem. But what about the million others ? And honestly. At this point, we all hide behind it. We drivers don't wanna fix it. It's not our problem. They are the ones in charge. Let them own it.

This week we lost two more management and three more drivers. Turnover is amazing. It's not slowing down one bit. New faces everyday. I don't need to change jobs to work with someone new everyday. I get that right here.

I simply refuse to do anything illegal. The one time I was told to do it or else. I said I will pull right up to the street. Pull the brakes. And call the Highway Patrol out. This is illegal and you need to be held accountable. They literally told me I wasn't allowed to. I said, how you gonna stop me ? Changed his mind real fast.

But you took a great angle. I wish I had simply done that. Back then I probably didn't have the safety guys name or number.

Regardless. Don't do illegal stuff. It's not going to get you anything good out of it. Only bad can come from it.

When various people ( myself included ) imply that XPO is fudging the numbers ( and facts ) it makes me wonder: Who are they cooking the books for?

It makes no sense to not use the handheld to document an exception honestly. It makes no sense to not put down the REAL reason why the delivery can't be completed. It makes no sense for one part of the company to basically lie to another part.

Why go to all the trouble and expense to put the features for doing an exception on the handhelds , then walk back nearly everything? Anyone have answers? It's not like it's a secret , so why not continue to do exceptions as they have been done in the past?

It all has to do with prospective investors. Cut Cost till the O/R looks great . Hide what’s really going on to them and they’ll invest more. ( the bulk of today’s investors do not do good research) Drive the stock price high and Jacobs can go on a buying spree again buying up more companies thus expanding Revenue. It’s really that simple. Remember I said Jacobs is an artist more than anything thing else. Paint a picture of a healthy company to fool investors. No substance but that’s hard to see from the outside looking in.
It takes more effort and time to make a company run correctly as it should than to make an illusion that’s it’s something that it’s not. Investors are looking for the quick buck these days not the long term . Jacobs has learned this and placates to those investors . Drive the stock price up he wins . The stock market is not based on reality’s and quality these days . It’s a casino and has to be played as such.

Back when it was Con-way and back when Con-way was paying a young man to drive a Nascar pickup truck ( but he was too young to have a CDL with full privileges ) , do you remember when there was a pay cut? Other benefits were walked back , but let's just say pay cut.

Does anyone know if management took a pay cut?

With YRCW companies having -15% for what , nearly a decade? Did any of their management have pay cuts?

Yes , they did .

Did anyone take advantage of the AFLAC window from September 9th to September 20th?

I couldn't get a clear answer on when the next enrollment window was.

Do other service centers still put up the notices for accounts in danger of being lost? I haven't seen one for a few years.

In that time I've seen two major national accounts lost without warning.

Local people keep using the excuse that it's a national account...as it losing a ginormous account won't blow a hole in your operations. Even though it might be just up the street or around the corner local folks wash their hands of ANY responsibility if business gets lost ...like they work for an entirely different company. BS.
