At a time when we are hemorrhaging money and runs are being cut imo this needs to be shelved for another day and focus on how we used to do things for awhile. The expensive rfid tags to the technology that needs to be installed yet above the dock doors. Specially when we bought two companies on top of it. TNT and Cargex. Health insurance surcharges. Nominal raises. It's time to think smart. Am I wrong?

Is that an option? With the way it's been unveiled it sounds like it's already paid for. I also find it interesting that there has been no mention of FedEx freight direct. It came around, leadership was excited and then we never heard about it again.

Freight Direct has been operational for some time and Fred has talked about it most recently as of 3 days ago with the earnings report. It's up and running at quite of few centers. I'm at a medium size end of line and we have received 4 of the smaller liftgate straight trucks for direct and they go out daily. Hope the info helps. it not a dead service

never heard about it again?

From the Daily News this week: Short version - Edited.

"Earlier this month, the FedEx Freight Direct team initiated 27 test shipments across all five U.S. regions to test out new technology and the cross-threshold delivery processes..."

"...using FedEx Freight boxes with integrated pallets, and all regions were asked to execute both Standard and Premium deliveries."

“The test shipments successfully demonstrated the capabilities of the Freight Direct technology and showed us opportunities for improvement on deliveries and customer service,” Frank Dyer, MD FedEx Freight Direct, said."

"Ken Frith, SVP FedEx Freight Direct & International, said. “With this momentum, we are well on our way to providing a nationwide service that exceeds customer demands.”

"Education and training for FedEx Freight Direct has been completed at 173 service centers..."

"To learn more about FedEx Freight Direct, please visit the information site on the intranet (keyword: direct)."

I stand corrected

I haven't heard anything about it

What kind of trucks and what size?

What kind of trucks and what size?
There's a thread titled FedEx Direct that explains all of the equipment and what's involved with these type of deliveries. Off hand I dont recall the size or brand of trucks. I do know the trucks do not require a class A license. I keep my distance them back breaking deliveries. I spent my first 8 years doing liftgate and after four surgeries I'll just bumps the docks.

We already perform lift gate deliveries. Are just renaming the service to charge more.

The other's mistake was mixing it in with their normal LtL routes.
Direct will be its own thing. Dedicated service, not an offshoot of ltl, and from what I understand, charges a premium for the service. Evenings, and weekends.
Will the freight direct drivers run out our locations and will they be considered contractors and on the rare occasion that they aren’t too busy can we put our non direct residential deliveries on the lower profile vehicles.
