XPO | Brad Jacobs Looks To Grow Xpo

There’s been days we’ve had more cartage drivers than XPO drivers. Looks like he’s contracting everything out, they’re saving a lot of money by doing it but they can care less about guys who’ve been working there for 10-20 years
What do you mean by "cartage drivers"? Other carriers or Owner operators delivering freight in the city?

Amazing. We have barns 30 to 50 trailers behind, drivers going home after 8. No weekend inbound. I heard John Deere put up quite a fuss about the **** poor service.
The town where I live has a John Deere manufacturing facility. Back in 2012 Con- Way was hauling 2 - 3 plus inbound 53 footers and several outbound loads every day. Now, not much inbound and very little outbound. It used to bid by specific lanes.
I am not sure how it's done now.

I don't know were you are at but at my place the cleaning services shows up every day, truck washed 4 times a year, equipment get fixed, dumpster is pickup when full, and two week ago we had the floor stripped and rewaxed over the weekend. It been like that for years now.
WOW !! Not at my barn !

We used to have a TON of inbound deere. It's a national account. We weren't making any money on the short haul stuff. Couple years ago the solution was, for us anyway, to do away with all the stuff that was moving within the Midwest.

Too much sorting and segregating. Little pieces. Easily damaged and/or lost. Delivery by a certain time.

This freight ( John Deere ) could not have been worth the hassle.

If they stripped and waxed your floors over the weekend it must have been a mistake! Our place couldn't get approval, told maybe 2020.

I won’t even get into how our facility ( building) has deteriorated. Jerry Detter would have a ::shit:: fit if he saw our working conditions now. I am positive that the facilities in Greenwich, Connecticut are as polished as ever ... no mice and rat droppings all over the desk and tables, no restrooms that are so dirty and overflowing with feces that they can’t be used, air conditioning units that haven’t worked for a year. No I’m pretty sure this is not something that Jacobs deals with on a daily basis.
But hey, the O/R is lowest ever .

It seem like ever since your place switched regions it been down hill. XMI I think is in the same one you are in and the same thing is happening their. It has been that way all year at my SIC with what I posted above. We will see what next year brings

Should read. Brad Jacobs. Billionaire. Needs more money. I am sure there is a crowd funding page somewhere. Because. He just isn't rich enough. The rest of it is all the same. Cut costs. Maximize profits. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Whatever.

And your fos probably shrugged, and said well, there’s always Tomorrow. The lack of any concern for missed pickups, inbound trailers stacking up, and the general I don’t give a :::shit::: attitude by management screams volumes about where we are headed.

Management keep quitting. It's a massive amount of turnover. As well as drivers. Can't keep any one. And as soon as the cold hits. You know half the dock hands are gone.

No lay offs at XCO. More people quit and more retirements. We can't keep drivers. So no need to lay any of them off. But I keep hearing about all these lay offs at terminals all around. If we are growing XPO LTL. Why do we have no need for drivers ? And why are we gifting these drivers to the competition during a shortage ? So that our competitors can pull even that much more freight than us ? The company with the most drivers wins. The company with the most drivers pulls the most freight. More freight. More money. I thought this Jacobs idiot was all about the money ? He sure as hell ain't all about the drivers or the customers. For damn sure. He ain't about drivers or customers. At all.

We haven't had layoffs, but I can't remember the last time we've replaced someone who'd quit, been fired, or retired. We had several drivers reclassified to dock workers with paycuts. Several of those already have quit. We are all being asked to volunteer to go home early occassionally to help reduce man hours.

Reputation in my area is toxic due to poor local management. When an ad is up for dockworkers or drivers there's usually zero response.

The ones that do show up are there and gone so fast you barely see them. Most of the long term employees tell them the truth of what's going on and they vanish.

We have had more than a few ask to go to being a full time dock hand and they won't let us. It's amazing how different things are from one location to the next.
