For some odd reason, I have had 4 days per the office written notice where it shows that I failed to complete pre and post trips when in fact I NEVER fail to do them on the ELD. Anyone else having this issue?

Are you starting your trip by immediately hooking up on start up then entering your pre trip? If so I could see how that would show drive time b4 a pt. I always enter it manually b4 I ever move the truck. Our software is garbage in the older units.

2018 truck... Hop in , log on, hook set, clock in, enter trailer numbers and manifest then switch over to eld to pre trip trailers, gear , tractor in that order. Should I be changing that order?

Idk, sounds like that would be sufficient but maybe there nit picking. Is this coming from tm or safety? Are they saying your not entering at all?

Make sure you do the pre trips before you dispatch.... Post trips after you arrive yourself. If you are at a meet its a custer$$$$ between you and your meet man. Just saying...… Our software is garbage in the older units.

Is it just like the Fedex system? Pre trip before you move the tractor?

Hi Dave
Ya know, now that u mention it, I have just been putting myself on duty and not pre tripping truck etc until after I clock on and hook up. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Thanks one and all for the advice. I’ll start on this Monday

Pre/post in the ELD or the EDVIR?
ELD - as you log in & go on duty make sure you add the pre/post trip in the remarks & the same when you log off. also unless you or your terminal is specifically being audited it is highly unlikely that failure to do this properly will ever be noticed

EDVIR - is slow & stupid and doesn't update in a timely manner

Just an update for future drivers...Turns out the driver/trainer was claiming that entering 2 trailers on one line was acceptable. Now, while it very well may work on his new 2020 tractor with newer ELD, evidently it didn't work for me on a 2018 unit as trailers were not registering every day.

Your driver trainer is wrong, this has never been the case regardless of how new or old the system is...

As a line haul trailer myself, or rather former trainer I have had the opportunity to clarify this in a meeting with multiple safety managers - if you enter 2 on 1 line it will take the first but not the second & the correct way is to enter each & every piece of equipment separately.

now if you really want to be annoyed by the backwards way we do things at times - the correct way is that every piece of equipment must be entered every time a piece of equipment is picked up, dropped or anytime you stop at a terminal, meaning if you are doing a meet you post trip the entire set *including the tractor* and then pretrip what you are picking up again including the tractor... if you go in to a yard a drop hook 1 trailer you are supposed to enter everything as a post trip and then enter everything again as a pre trip & yes even if you swing and do a terminal to pull one piece of freight off the back of a trailer or get fuel again you are supposed to post trip/pre-trip everything...

all that being said I was told by management that since they are having a hard enough time just trying to get drivers to enter anything that they really aren't too worried about all the missed single pieces of equipment at thru terminals at this point in time.

How do I do it?
I pre-trip everything individually when I start & post trip what & only what I leave somewhere and then post trip everything individually at the end of the day... and if they tell me otherwise I'll tell the to **** off

Oh and use the three letter terminal/meet ID & don't spell out specific city names - during an audit they are going to be pulled bye terminal ID and anything not flag with that ID will be missed

Didn’t know that about the city names, that makes no sense, just another SAIA law I suppose but I second your definition on pre and post. Was told the exact same way by safety.

the fact is, pre trips and post trips were only registering tractor and dolly and zero recorded for the trailers. Funny how it was allowing me to submit them but clearly not submitting them.

Wow, I did it wrong all those years, I walked around my trailers, counted the wheels, checked numbers if I thought about it.
Post trip, I pulled on the yard, told the switcher, "it's yours now"
