I know we are live with the new ELD software in the western region. Midwest region getting ready to go live next Monday. Does anyone have anything to report or any concerns that need to be addressed? Has the rollout went smoothly or are there problems?

Vnomics or something else?

Would you give a preview of some of the ridiculous things you've run across so far?
"Unassigned" events that have to be attached to a driver.
The ability for you to violate someone else's 10 hour break, and vice versa.
Really not much at all if you "key it, log it, start it" and log out

This question wasn’t answered directly, never thought to ask. Do you log out in reverse order of log in? I mean, shut the truck off before logging out.

I understand that any engine function is ok after a proper sign in. I myself will prefer to turn off before log out.

You will now have a 4 digit pin, In addition to emp id, to go on/off duty and to log into vnomics unit

You will have the ability to go back and enter your lunch yourself through the vnomics unit, if for some reason you didn’t get it right when you actually took it.

As far as unassigned events go, all time that the vehicle is running needs to be “assigned” to a driver (you’re supposed to be logged in the whole time you’re using the truck) if a vehicle is turned on with out a driver logged in, that creates an “unassigned event” (time the vehicle is running with no one to assign it to). Drivers have an opportunity each day to claim those events (if they know they created them) and those times get put into their logs.

If no one claims the events, after 8 days management will have to research who may have been in that truck and assign the events to drivers, themselves.

Ahhh. So say your at the fac, someone jumps in your truck to move trailers and you logged out, but it’s your assigned unit?

The vnomics unit would ask you if that event was yours to claim. You would answer no. If management didn’t know who was moving trailers with your tractor, they would eventually have to assign it to someone.

It’ll be very important to really look to see if those events at whatever time, were really something you did. You would want to avoid just tapping away at the screen and maybe accept an event that wasn’t yours that could affect your hours.

Just another reason for me to dislike too much federal govt interference in commerce. None of this was XPO's idea, we're simply being forced to comply with the new federal standard. There is one policy change however that will affect a few of the city drivers. The company is going to disallow the 100 air mile exception once your truck is running the ELD software.

And I can tell you from the feedback I'm getting from upper management within my district is that if drivers start to accrue a bunch of unidentified records, discipline will follow. This is because tracking down these records is time consuming and most of it can be avoided simply by not starting the engine until a driver is properly logged on to the system. As to your last sentence, the best way a line haul driver can cover his butt is log off the truck before coming it to work the dock. Yes, you'll still have to through the "Key it, log it, start it" process again when you're ready to leave, but you will not have to worry about someone moving your equipment while being logged on in your name and messing up your duty hours.

We never used it here anyway and I ran a peddle for years.

I have one question. Will the new update to the ELD have "Personal Conveyance" in the system. Does the company have a "Personal Conveyance" in place. The reason I ask is if you are stuck on the road that has an accident on it and run out of time the cops can order you to move you vehicle to a safe location. Per the rule you would use the "Personal Conveyance". Also for those that have toi bobtail to a hotel will also need to have this on the ELD. Was anything brought up about this?
