ODFL | List Od Ridiculous Stuff

Denny’s is hiring. Mickey D’s is looking. Welcome to trucking hand. A number of years ago another driver and myself volunteered to run a run. Nobody else wanted to face the weather. It took us 3 days and 2 nights to complete it. Usually it can be done in 10 hours.
Holy mackerel! Where was that route...the North Pole?

Exactly. They knew that if there’s weather, we’d make while the others wouldn’t. I’m talking about the senior drivers, not the trucking school graduates. “Oh I have a snowflake on my windshield, I can’t make it.” That’s if they even come to work. Lol.

Back to the most ridiculous. It’s snowing up north, SEA and OLY and so you show up to work in shorts???? You get stuck at a certain terminal, with no chains on. You have the dock workers come out and dig you out, while you sit in your tractor. The dock worker’s finally say it’s your problem driver. You sit there for a extraordinary amount of time. I don’t remember how or who threw iron for this driver.

Another one, driver covers a run while scheduled driver is on vacation. You can’t break and put away the trailers because you claim that you don’t have time. But you have time to be inside complaining and BS’ing. Hmmm, I wonder if he claimed 4 drops.

Yep, you earned all that prestige, atta boys and a hero badge, had you wrecked or injued someone, OD would have fired you just like any other driver.

Also “Couldn’t fuel after my run because I was pushing my 14”

When you educate these drivers that the only thing they can’t log after 14 hours is drive time they don’t care. Perfectly legal to be on duty for eternity as long as you don’t hit line 3. Just laziness.

Ok. But if he works 90 minutes after 14 fueling or whatever, will it effect his being able to start his bid time? von.

Since your so determined to work more than 14 hours please show up on monday morning and go home friday nite and report back to us how you like it

If that’s in the handbook I must have missed it. If it’s something supervisors tell you then I’d follow it but personally I’ve never been spoken to about going over 10-15 minutes to make life easier for my coworkers who share equipment.

Since you’re so determined not to why don’t you call a taxi for a ride home off the side of the highway next time you’re broke down or out of hours and see how this logic plays out for you...

Things go wrong, sometimes we have long days. No need to be so dramatic.

When running the extra board, I ran out of hrs. 30 min from Charl due to breakdown, they put me to bed, when rested, I was tripped to Hagerstown Md.
I came by Charl to take on fuel, went home and showered, started North, got caught in our worse snow storm that year, went back to bed at Raphine Va.
Felt like I had cut off my nose, to spite my face.
