XPO | Done!!!

I left quietly too. I worked in a big barn, ran night linehaul, and didn't even know most of the daytime workers. Con-Way gave me a plastic trophy-like thing congratulating me on my retirement.
When I was working, I was always rushing around trying to get things done at home. I still have "honey do's" but I can take my time doing them.

When I retired, I thought I'd take a couple months off, then find something part time. After those couple months I decided I like having nothing to do. Yesterday, I had nothing to do, but I didn't finish, so I'm doing nothing again today. :joyous:
I’m hoping that when and if I retire, I won’t be looking for a job! I think I could get used to not working, although many say that I’ll need to find something to do. Work just won’t be one of them!

I’m always amazed how people say they won’t have anything to do in retirement. Between Grandchildren, volunteer work and many hobbies I’ll be pinched for down time. S6

Maybe VP could get a part time gig driving a pickup/stakebed doing will calls and small deliveries if he misses the old job.
VP, if you do, please don’t block the dock door with the only ramp.....:cuss: :17142:

K, Big Dave will do, I’ll try not to block any dock doors with my stake p/u truck... I promise !!!
I most likely won’t cause I’ll probably be out making house deliveries for Amazon Prime in one of their package vans. At least that’s the plan next Spring, (after winter is over first of course,).That is I’ll only work if I get bored of being retired , sitting home, watching tv, and taking naps.

VP a little late hitting this thread. Good luck and enjoy you retirement you earned it.
Now for the bad news. Now that you are retired there are some new rules you have to follow.
1. You are only allowed on the roads between the hours of 9am and 3pm and 6pm to 7pm to have dinner out, but you must be home in time for Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. That is required watch to be classified as a retiree.
2. You are not to drive in any bad weather, more or less no sun shine, no drive. You have no were to be so stay home
3. You are only allow to drive in the right lane, no passing allowed.

Thx Fly...will do on following the rules of retirees. At least I’ll try to follow them. Why would I possibly not follow them ? Let me briefly explain. I’ve only been retired for 9 days. In that brief time I have plunged from a steely disciplined workaholic, rising up early, working late, going home, eating supper and making myself go to bed with lights out before 21:00.... to now a shamefully lazy and undisciplined smuck. And you know what ?... I don’t even care that I’ve become what I am . Is this what being retired is suppose to be ???

Yes!
(fbn)
(forgot the blinker on at all times when driving. Does not matter which side. No flashers! )

I told that to my dad when he retired years ago. He laughed at me.
Your retirement is in it's early stages give it time and soon the wife will be kicking you out of the house because you will either get in her way or driveing her crazy.

Oh don’t worry, she won’t be getting sick of me and booting me out the door any time sooooooon. Why ? ...cause she’s still working.Besides, she mentioned to me that she has plans for me to do a few things around here now that I’ve got all the time in the world,(i.e. house work and the like). I won’t mind helping her out though. And I’ll be catching up on many inside house fix up projects myself too. So apparently over the course of the next two years, at least , I’ll be plenty busy.

good luck in retirement! i've got 21 months to go till its my time .now that your retired please stay out of the middle lane going 45 mph with your hi-beam headlights on when driving at night on the big road
Thx Useless
I’ll try to keep that in mind while I’m driving to my next destination on my bucket list of places to see and visit before I die as a retiree.
Good luck on your not too distant retirement plans yourself driver. Be safe out there on the interstate with that big XPO set ,( if you run line haul),being patient in watching out for those idiot night drivers who are oblivious of being in the center lane, crawling down the interstate at 45mph with their headlights locked on high beam. What dopes huh ?

Thx trucknfool
Indeed. !!!
The only way I will know that a new week has begun will be on Sunday mornings ... cause I’ll have to get up early, (before 10 am), to get ready to go to Church. And I’ll know it’s a new week cause I’ll have to roll my trash container to the street side curb Sunday nite for early Monday morning pick up.LOL
I would get a burn barrel and burn those uniforms!!!! I have hardly nothing left from Con- Job. I sure will not be wearing any uniforms when I am done.

I hope you’re right about that driver... not having to go back to work as a last resort when you retire. Why Dalesr? cause not being disciplined in going to work every day for me is just so odd. Just laying around and not bringing home the bacon after decades of only doing that,(and nowadays suddenly ceasing that pattern,) makes me feel unproductive and shirking my duty.
I most likely will get a part time job next Spring ,(after winter of course and not driving truck), just to have feel normal again. I like not having to go back to work, but it’s as adjustment for me.

why would you even think of wearing them after you retire anyway? There’d be no need to . Although I still wear Conway pants that I’ve cut off and made into shorts to use in the summer when doing yard work.

You’re close, UL! Believe me...those 21 months will fly by! Stay focused, be safe. One day at a time, brother!!

Let me guess... you’re gonna try to finish doing NOTHING again ???

I've had to move for (we... Wife and I) for the second time in 10 months.
To retire we had to sell the dead weight we were in and build (again) something simple to live in. Which we did. And what is here is paid off. Point of doing all we have done.
We lived in a 50+ year old farmhouse for the past 10 months. Free. So can't beat the rent. But paid the price in stink and dust and just no room in it. 900 Sq. Ft. house.
Down from. 2300 Sq ft.
Now we just spent four days moving all this crap again. And we really are not done yet. Moving. And the inside of the new place is not done. It's livable. But we have alot of work to do inside. Alot.
So this is our part time job for awhile. Finishing up.
I (we) know one thing. We never ever want to move again. Never.
So we don't need part time jobs. We have plenty to keep us busy. None of it was intentional. But things always happen unexpectedly in life. But we always make it work. From the start 42 years ago to now. Sh*t happens and you deal with it and move on.
Right as of now I (we) have no time for part time work.
Thank goodness I don't have to drive to work.
I just get out of bed and I'm at work already. Lol.
It's all good. Worst part is over. (Contractors. Plumbers. Electricians. Tilers.. On and on.) they were all little nightmares!
Personally I'd rather not have anything to do.
I will get to the point of that. Nothing to do.
Have had some of the "nothing to do" at times because of delays. And I like it.
:17142:
So if you don't have anything to do right now just wait.
Something will come up. Hahaha.

no scores to settle, I gave trying to get what I wanted from this company years ago.
No retirement party yet either . It was set to happen last Friday morning but my scm wanted me to put it off till nov 6th. Why? He said that he was too stressed with the roll out of the new els/vnomics update this past week end and upcoming week. No time for anything but business apparently till this update blows over.
Had my retirement recognition deal today back at my barn. My scm rolled out the red carpet for me. He had a full catered breakfast that included bacon, scrabbled eggs,French toast, hash browns, sausage, bagels, etc. My scm gave me a recognition speech. Then presented me with a hard plastic,( an ‘at a boy’ ) trophy, 2 model linehaul sets,(Con-way & XPO Logistics), and 2 nice framed pics of me in my xpo uniform standing in front of my truck on my last work day. Being number 1 dsr, I gave a foam rubber #1 glove to our number 2 dsr that officially made him number 1 today. Passing the torch to him you might say. All in all it was quite a nice departure and send off that my scm gave me. I got to hand it to him, he really put in the effort. Oh... I almost forgot, he gave my wife a bouquet of flowers too, how thoughtful of the guy. Maybe I’ll reconsider all the negative things that I’ve thought about him. Yeah... just maybe !
