Remember when Domino's Pizza guaranteed pizza in 30 minutes or less?

In 1993, in reaction to multi-million dollar settlements arising from car accidents involving its delivery drivers, Domino’s ended its delivery guarantee. While the pizza maker never admitted its drivers drove unsafely in their efforts to beat the deadline, at a 1993 news conference Domino’s owner Monaghan said the guarantee was being dropped in an attempt to fight a “public perception of reckless driving and irresponsibility.”

Can you imagine what a law firm will do with an accident involving a P&D driver when they find out the driver had a countdown timer while preparing to leave the yard?

You are some what correct. Yes the CORPORATE store did away with the 30mins, because the corp store was the one that was sued. When I work for the company back in the 90s some of the franchisees were still doing it. As of today I think that all went out the window.
As for the count down timer from what I hear if you not out the yard by the time you have to enter a comment on why. We have the same thing on LH they give us 22mins to pre-trip and hook a set. The big on is Yard congestion or yard flow. For the city I sure you can find comments to use. Here is one for you to use "Looking up direction to first stop"

I'm sure you are right.

What is the punishment ( or coaching ) for not getting out of the yard in time?

And how in the world were these issues handled ( dwell time ) before computers? Did management actually have to leave the computer screen and walk around and work? Using their own brain , eyes , and ears to figure out who's doing what and how long they take? Heaven forbid the system crashes.

As far as my barn nothing was done. Is sure now with the new system in place something will be said. I know AF now FedEX has gate readers, or they did when I was there, so the know what time the truck leave and enters the yard. When I was there they had them one every trailer, truck and dolly.

Yep, and you know what that gets you? Accusations of favoritism, since they'd basically be wandering the yard looking for people standing around. There's no real way to be objective about it, and we all know people can't handle being told to do their job regardless of what the next guy is doing.

The technology just makes it easier to see and provides documentation. The rules really haven't changed, so if the technology bothers you...

If working ( and being accused with or without documentation ) bothers you...

Personally , I appreciate the attempts at modernization with things like handhelds and algorithmic technology to try and help people that do their job do it more effectively.

It's naive to think that favoritism will be overcome with technology anymore than giving a lazy driver a fast truck will make the driver work harder.

Go on...

Are we trying to overcome human nature? Where's the line between favoritism and encouragement? Does it make more sense to reward the guy who treats managers like dirt or the guy who treats them like human beings?

That was a rumor many years ago. They were looking at combining South Bend and Gary into one barn somewhere in between the two existing terminals.
I've heard that ground has been broke and it's in Illinois , a massive 250 -300 door deal.

Stunning , considering Bradley Jacobs is sucking every penny out of the place. The motivation is supposedly because Gary's lease is up.

It's also an ancient barn that's horribly small. But if they are putting it in Illinois I am guessing South Bend is staying open.

The new terminal needs to be in reach of XTM Tomah for day and night lines.I hear they will shuttle the third box to a yard across the road from the old terminal for the trips

Any truth to the rumor that bottom drivers are being offered to become a dockworker or take a few grand and leave?

Let me be more specific: XDE is where this supposedly happened.

The bottom four drivers or so were offered to leave and take several grand or be converted over to dockworkers.

Just curious is this accurate and how widespread is this is if it's happening.
