XPO | Xpo Union Thread.

I have a family member who’s a feeder driver for UPS . He’s in line to make 135k this year working about 55 hours a week! Don’t forget he does not pay a dime for insurance and has a fully paid pension. Just saying.
A city driver for Xpo can make 90k working similar hours , hauling Hazmat, which he does not and touch a bunch more freight . Plus has to contribute to his healthcare and retirement.

One can see where this industry has room for improvements.

When you get LTL customers to pay XPO what UPS gets paid for parcel packages. Then we may have a leg to stand on in this comparison.

Bad analogy. YRC divers did to save a company that made bad investments in the 90’s . If your going to make statements like that please at least look into why they made concessions.

They made concessions because the union told the rank and file to vote yes. Because it's gets the union paid. And to celebrate YRC brass got millions in bonuses. So, whatever.

I don't believe this is true. We have about a 50/50 split publically. There are absolutely (we have had private discussions) a few guys who are pro union but scared to say so out loud. There are some barns with a more pro mix and some with a more anti mix but I'd bet it's close to 50/50 across the board.

This barn could vote tomorrow. And I have no idea what the result would be. So many have left. I don't even know these people.

As for “taking the pension money with us” when we leave a Teamster job, that would depend on if you’re vested or not, which usually happens after 5 (uninterrupted) years of service. After 5 years, yes...you CAN take it with you. It will be there for you always. The longer you’re in, the bigger your monthly benefit. It’s that simple. And what do you pay for healthcare for your family? I bet it’s more than $63/month. ABF employees pay nothing. That alone right there is worth it.

Will be getting close to $400 a month from Coca-Cola in 20 years. By then, with inflation and all. It'll be coffee and chips money. But it's still going to be my money.

What were the members to do ? Vote no and have no job ? You can’t get blood from a stone.
Ultimately it’s up to the membership to vote what they feel is best and not what the leadership feels is right them.

You can’t win with you guys . You blame unions for putting companies out of business with their greed but when they make concessions their too weak.

I agree. The pressures is to drive the cost down . Just like it was on truckload 30 yrs ago.
It’s up to us to stand strong and say hell no .What we do and what we are required to have in licensing, make us worth more . Company big wigs will see that they themselves our compensated well . It’s up to us to tell them both we have value. If we don’t do that don’t expect for things to get better for us . If you lay down and only take what is given to you don’t expect much ! You may not have faith in unions and I can to some degree understand that , but what other way can you stand together ? These companies are not looking to reward good workers on their merit . Those days are long gone . They zero respect for what we do .

I have yet to see one suggestion from the non union crowd as to what to do outside of organizing to make things better.
I’m all ears !

Also , licensing requirements are getting more stringent along with drive cam and ELd’s
Our job is getting harder to maintain with all these things and more is coming. It will be harder to keep your job but yet you still allow the devaluation by these employers .

Please educate me then

Aurora votes tomorrow and I have no idea how it will go either. I'm hearing good things, but I heard good things about Erie too! UPS hired a lot of drivers recently and many of the XPO guys went there. Can't say I blame them.

Not looking good for the Aurora teamsters. Many of the hardcore supporters have left for greener pastures, or have been fired. The management have smoked them out. Chicagoland UPS has scored big, taking many experienced Chicagoland XPO driver's this year. Can't blame them when you are ten plus years in running LaSalle daliy.

Remember if your basing what you make in total for a year other than hourly consider the guys who are working Lh work 70 hrs a week to make that 100k
Not at UPS or XPO. $110 @55 hrs/week. Just another perspective. UPS may be the most coveted job for most of us. But four years to top pay, not necessarily consistent work. For the 20 years I wanted out of roadwork, meh, I’m good.

There is nothing that can be done. Go somewhere else. That’s it. End of story. It’s a free market, vote with your feet. Nothing is going to change.

Would you do the same if they became union?
I honestly don’t know. Our situation is different up here. I do know if it was the teamsters, my dues would be going to charity. If it was the CAW, IBEW, no problem at all. Excellent unions.

Plenty of trucking jobs out there. Keep your eyes open.
