Our terminal was one of the last to set up on it. As an Xtra board driver I would like to read stories of how everyone else is dealing with it. I’ve heard don’t go over 5mph,,,, never accept previous movements,,,, always use yard move hooking up. Well I tell ya places like Nashville, Denver , Joliet and Charlotte where the parking lots are a mile long. What do you guys do??

I’m not an expert by any means but this is what I’ve gathered in my few days with it. You can move 4mph while on the rest break and be fine but it is a snails pace. As soon as you hit 5 it goes back to drive mode. On duty yard move you can move up to 14mph before it throws you into drive mode. When you use PC mode if you stop enroute to the hotel or terminal : when you crank back up you must hit the “yes” option to stay on PC Or it will go back into drive mode. This can really inconvenience you if you’re not careful. I’m not sure why anymore it won’t show how long you’ve been driving, how long you’ve been on break, the miles driven for the day or how much total drive time you have in the 14 hour window.

As long as you are on yardmove,AT A TERMINAL,you can go over your 8 hours driving, finish your work on the yard and log out and go home or start your 30 minute break.Im not gonna scam the system but I want to use every way I can to benefit me.

On Yard move you can do 20 before it kicks you over. But no one should be doing 20 in the yard anyway so no big deal.

After you take your break the remaining drive time it shows is your total for the day.

When you're on your 30 minute break it counts down from 30 with the box in red. Once you hit 30 it turns green and shows you how much drive time you have left for the day.

ELD isnt all that complicated and in my experience nothing changed from before except having to log in and be on duty for hooking up, pretripping etc.

Yes I have noticed the tablets work rather smooth and with finesse. The older Peoplenet units (buttons on bottom) seem to have a hard time with the new software. Every time I need to change status I have to do a hard reset because it locks itself in the drive screen. It also will not certify my logs. Logged in via personal phone to that website today for the first time and I had 10 days worth of uncertified logs. I then had to certify them all online. Hopefully we will all have tablets sooner than later.

The only thing I’ve had to deal with is when someone else moves the truck not logged in and having to reject 20 occurrences.
If those moves are more than two or three weeks old and my logs for those dates are already certified I'm not going through and rejecting them. With all the system crashes and reboots it's up to a half hour of my time wasted. Someone in management can figure it out.

Harris-Teeter D. C., "New Driver Log System", sign on computer at Transportation/Dispatch, go to Pre-trip, sign off.
Get in assigned Truck, sign in, IGNORE "unassigned" entries, Pre-trip (again), then Yard Move till "check out at guard shack" and out Gate.
Arrive Stop, go to Yard Move.
30 minute break is 32 minutes (Off Duty), all other time is Driving, Drop-n-Hook, Yard Move.
Back to Base, Yard Move till Truck Parked then sign off (ignoring "unassigned" entries).
Sign in at Trans/Disp., Off Duty, sign off.

And you were paid by the hour to go back & certify what should have already been taken care of? von.

Paid by the hour to do something that takes all of 10 seconds if that? You must be a union guy, gotta be paid extra for taking a leak on company time..

You can do it on the clock (p&d) or during your run while at a meet point or whenever you arent actually driving, as long as its after midnight since you are certifying the previous day.

Look how dummied down labor has become , calling someone a union guy is now some kind of an insult ?

Any word on how long the systems going to be out of service, been told nothing by management except that they are aware of the problem. One road driver said he was told by a shop that after the first of the year the older units were no longer going to operate, tablet style only. Another driver said he heard that they will not be operational until the 8th.They replaced 10 older units with tablets over the holidays and one of the drivers said the tablet is just laying on the floor plugged in, no mounting hardware.

Your damn right it’s an insult! That word right there (Union) will get your ass fired from this place quicker than a cat can shake his tail. And rightfully so! F the union!

What happened to the rule that you could only be on paper logs a few days in 30 days?

I think I'd be wasting my time explaining what the union has done for you, even if you've never belonged to a union, but I think it would go over your head so I won't bother.
