R&L | Pallet Jacks; Manual Or Electric?

Any way, I google "Big Green Machine" and everything is about Bissell carpet cleaners. With New Penn corporate shut down and rolled in to YRC, dies the Big Green Machine really exist?

Copy that, lots of carriers gone by the wayside . Big R, Corn Flake, the Dollar sign, the 151 Line, Eazor, Duff, Transcon. Like I said, never heard the Big Green Machine for New Penn, but you learn something new everyday. Deregulation changed the industry a lot .

In spite of all that and the no OT pay, I’d still rather drive a green truck than one that says XPO or Saia on the side. It ain’t always about the money.
Now, I could say in response; if it ain’t always about the money, then why not just work for free?
Then, I could also add; of course it’s always about the money.

Not being disrespectful here; just being honest.

I’ve noticed that on this forum, there’s really just a few of the same posters stroking each other with little else being said; especially in regards to a common good resulting in a common, learning growth. Maybe with a bit more tolerance, that ‘gene pool’ could be expanded with the addition of new members, therefore giving this forum the vitamin B shot that it might need to reach its’ full potential. After all, you guys have got a pretty good thing going here....

I fully understand that there is a time and and a place for everything; certain topics should remain in specific sections, rules should be followed, and respect should always be practiced to the best of all our abilities. That being said, a healthy debate is just that.....healthy, provided that we all follow certain rules.

Now I’m probably going to get another spanking from Shadow.

You think too much, hop on the Emerald Express and ride it till you get uncomfortable or bored. I still like Big Green Machine better. Maybe I can get Wong to have YRC license my use of it at a 15 % rate.

I admit; I’m not the quickest truck in the terminal but.... I have absolutely no idea what this means.

I guess we’re all kinda’ sniffing each other out. I can hear it loud and clear..... “is the new guy gonna’ make it”?
I hope so; I really appreciate all the input and information that I can get regarding R&L, er, Emerald Express and I do value everything that you guys have to say; my first day there is coming up real soon and I’m actually looking forward to it.

Whoa your "pride in it's people" almost sounds like that jibberish crap on the wall at R+L. Actually had the scones to have it embroidered into the new Pete seats. I laugh when I see that on the wall. Oops I'm not even on track with this thread now but let me add this about the pallet jacks. Keep it secured.

What terminal are you losing your virginity at? Don't forget R+L specializes in the lift gate delivery. A lot of residential deliveries. A lot of sort and seg. Once you find your sweet spot you should be ok. When I started got lots of 2000 pound litigate deliveries aka flooring. Gun safes which are not good at all. You'll make your own choices. Don't be afraid to say it's not happening. Be smart. Don't cry about having to do your job. It's a job. Not Disneyland.

Thanks for the advice; I’m definitely paying attention.

I’m going to be working out of the China Grove terminal in North Carolina.

I’m not new to liftgate deliveries; I worked for ABF out of Londenderry, N.H. two years ago. I liked the job but I quit to move from New England to North Carolina. The ABF terminal in my new area is too far from where I live so I decided on R&L.

And speaking of Disneyland; I actually used to work there (the one in Anaheim, Ca.) about 20 years ago.

Merry Christmas. So you worked at ABF. How long? If you spent more than 5 years full time you definitely need to consider going back. Eastern Conference. Still in good shape. To be honest you have to consider your long term future. R+L is privately owned. You need to (staying on subject) work for a company that doesn't make you buy pallet jacks and contributes towards a pension. Let's go a step further...R+L supplied 50 FREE PALLET JACKS TO THE EMPLOYEES WHO TRANSFERRED AND HIRED ON IN SANGER TEXAS NOT 7 MONTHS AGO. Why? Why not everyone's pallet jacks. They do underhanded sloppy things like that. Then tell you YOU need to buy one. Please reconsider your long term future. Please. Man to man. R+L is ok. That being said you won't have much when you retire if you stay here. Don't buy an electric jack. And if you deal with anything heavier than let's say 1500 pounds you get help from the customer or bring it back. Your not here to blow out a knee or shoulder. Know your limitations and don't hurt yourself. Be safe and smart. Then get back to ABF. Good day sir.

Really good advice and information.
The nearest ABF terminal is way too far from where I live to make the drive every day.
