Senior guys (with a heart) do it to open a slot for those not working.

It's good for the bottom guys (to get to work) & good for the top guys to get time off without sacrificing vacation days. Win/win.

I never thought about it that way. I was thinking extra board guys who's run gets called off.

Who does that? Those guys better start coming in and jumping on a forklift, even if it's for just 6 hours
Plenty of reasons a driver would want the option.

Need a day off for whatever. Get eyes checked, teeth cleaned, or just a day to catch up around the house without burning vaca time.

Also, we had quite a few drivers who were married to very financially successful women. Basically here for the ins, snd a little extra $. They are content to never come to work.

Now keep it under your hat that you volunteered for time off

do you fuel your city tractor every day like a couple of our
drivers regardless if you used nill on your 75 miles you put on
the same run every day ? Yep , 40 minutes every day , don't
forget to spend 20 minutes hiding in the bathroom...

35+5=40 :greedy dollars:
Funny you should ask. End of day today I was at 1/4 tank. Tired after 8 and 2 hrs overtime I said "F it" I'll fill it in the morning.

That is part of the problem here. To many willing to work part time. The company expects it of "everyone". I'm the bread winner in our household. If folks want to work part time they should go find one and quit holding up a full time slot a jr. guy who wants to work full time could use imho.

Agree 100%..

Love you like a Brother Swamp .. but my family is first. And one of those bottom guy's will screw you over in a heart beat just to get bumped up a slot.

I know this will cause a disturbance in the force and ruffle some feathers, but this wasn’t such a huge issue at Viking. The extra board was a wheel. When times were good nobody cared. When times weren’t, the pain was shared, nobody was starved out.
True. But back then they didn't over hired. I remember also we couldn't have two guys on vacation at the same time.

But you must remember, a wheel board makes it inconvenient for us high seniority drivers to make payments on our new P U trucks.

This has to be the stupidest comment I have seen. So senior guys should work or find a part time job? Or should junior guys quit and find a job with guaranteed hours? CC Day is your choice, if it is offered, no one makes you take one.

What was discussed in our meeting.
No more doughnuts till further notice

Clinical depression can get you medical disqualification for a year

:crushed:Ahhhh , now I'm depressed because of them.
:upset:No cares.....

Yeah, I thought Mr. Pruitt shoulda thought first before writing that one down too. But I don’t think he’s a mean guy or wishes ill will on senior guys. I’m gonna take liberty and write what he meant to say:

Being older and starting over on a junior list, I wish I was working as many hours as these guys who can occasionally call off on some days. Especially since I am the breadwinner in the family. But I know that I will move up eventually. I remember how it works. And it’s good that these guys take off so that the junior guys are allowed to work more hours during these slow times......

BTW I’m posting this from home......on a CC day:1036316054:

Truth be told, if I were making as much as a senior road guy, I'd probably take off every other week if they let me. It's hard to see it from where I'm standing, but I understand it.

I was asked if I wanted to stay home one day next week to give part timers some hours on the dock. They made it clear that its completely voluntary, but it would help in keeping them fully staffed. I agreed to stay home a day.

The reasons are a mixed. First, I don't want anybody to be here struggling. I know a lot of those guys rely on that check and getting 10 hours a week sucks. I don't think they should've ever been hired, but that's not their fault. Secondly, the day I picked is going to be cold as balls. I'd rather stay in bed. Lastly, I try to pay everything forward. There have been times when senior drivers throw me a bone so I can get some miles in. The least I can do is toss a bone to somebody else.

We have a diversity hire whose only duties seem to be walking around the terminal in a purple shirt and carrying a stapler. He shows up everyday and gets paid a full day while trained drivers stay home or at best work the dock for 3 or 4 hours, because management is only allowed to have “X” amount of drivers on the street.

Nothing is going to change.
