Honestly I’m not a huge fan of this site but I couldn’t pass this one up. Went into Memphis with a blown headlight at 1:37 in the morning and the mechanic tells me to put it on the deadline and get a loaner. I’m 850 miles from my home terminal. Are you fcn kidding me? I went to that Pilot down the road , bought a headlight (saved the receipt) and did it myself on the fuel island. This just blew my ever loving mind!! My God ,,135 why do you people even have a building called a “shop”?

Our mechanic Bob Kenmoore used to stop what he was doing & fix the little stuff for inbound. Also he would fix the occasional P&D trailer roll door cables, saving a lot of time for the peddle run. He saved ABF thousand of dollars over the years by not calling a vendor for a hangnail. Now, 050 moved up North to almost Lebanon, IN & all their 'hangnail' repairs are repaired by a outside vendor. Even with wages & benefits, it is still cheaper to have a mechanic on site than outside vendors fixing everything. In cold weather Bob would drive around in the company PU jump start 25 trucks in the morning with a shot of starting fluid. A whole lot cheaper than calling in a vendor. von.

I had the rig towed to a terminal without a shop and said i need to get a tractor from you guys and they said ' theres nothing we can do for you guy " a total feeling of desperation and then i have to start making phone calls while the people net and myself are running low

If that is true, you should’ve went to mgmt over it. Guys on here that take being bullied drive me crazy. Do something about it. I know the shop supervisor in Memphis and he wouldn’t let that happen. Stand up for yourself, good grief.

The shop supervisor’s extension is 5175. Tell him about this.

Yes. Don’t be a little bitch. Be proactive and address issues. You must be a driver that came from a union company and was afraid stand up for yourself. Don’t be scared here.

I think you may be mistaken, a union driver makes one phone call to dispatch and tells him the problem, then sits on his butt on the clock and lets someone else handle the problem.

I have never had a problem standing up for myself. Union stands up on a grievance and lets someone else fight for them. That is real tough, let someone fight for you. Don’t be a little boy and fight your own battles. Seems work out for the better. Just saying. I am not scared and will always stand when others kneel.

Ed, you must be one with the union.

I don’t want argue or put down what you believe but I, for one, am happy to be non. I make very good $$$ and am very happy. Maintenance has its issues and I fight my battles. I don’t let individuals treat me like low life. Be a man or be a woman. Don’t let individuals talk or treat you like a lower employee and they won’t. Stand up and be the person you should be.

I can see you have it all under control and need nothing from no one.
Lets hope when you've put in your 35, you can look back and say someone did for you what the union has done for me. keep on trucking, you'll make it.

I do not have it made by no means. I just stand up for what I believe. I have worked for Estes since 2014 and they have done nothing but treat me well. I retired with 24 years US Army service and draw 90% from the VA. I do not ask for any special treatment. I only ask for fair pay for fair work. Do not down the job or go elsewhere if you feel been screwed. I am non union 100%.
