More forklift driving than truck driving.Just got call I was hired for road gig. I finished on boarding etc. I was curious what to expect first couple months. Orientation and training? Thanks!
Good luck buddy! I have no idea why the other fella made the forklift comment? What terminal are you at? Things are slow at some terminals but other ones are jumping. If you stay with the program when your out there you can make money, if you spend all night in truck stops and wayside you won't do so well. My biggest concern would be the pension, get that 401k going when you get a chance, Good Luck!Just got call I was hired for road gig. At my terminal we have zero layoffs and hired a lot of guys in the last couple years. Can I ask where you got hired? Most of the talk now is about layoffs, and future layoffs.
Where do you run out of five tollsAt my terminal we have zero layoffs and hired a lot of guys in the last couple years.
I swear you guys try and scare people into not coming here for a hobby! I have not been hearing of any layoffs anywhere since Thanksgiving, have you?
Jamie said there is never a freeze on hiring. Only on wages.Hiring ??? Really ??? thought there was a Hiring freeze on ??
Maybe your terminal isn't being affected by the "financial headwinds" caused by our CBA. I agree, most of the talk, as well as the layoffs are on the YRC side. I just wanted to establish this guys bonafides and see where he is career wise. If you want to cheer lead feel free. And no "if you don't like it quit" doesn't apply here. I work with a lot of guys who don't like it and stay just the same. anyone who isn't just a bit nervousAt my terminal we have zero layoffs and hired a lot of guys in the last couple years.

Maybe you should have gotten crazy and thought outside the box and asked the new fella..." Hi new guy, what made you choose Holland over the other carriers " Than we could have an idea of where to take the conversation.Maybe your terminal isn't being affected by the "financial headwinds" caused by our CBA. about Mr Pierson's arrival has their head in the sand. In order to get another line of credit,( with this one we can set foot on the moon) he's going to need our help isn't he? If I'm wrong I'll admit it. But bill counts are down at both mainline and regionals. Maybe the consolidation will help cut costs, it better with the 1.2 million we owe Mr. Pierson.
I kind of hijacked the thread again, I guess my point is Toll, with so many opportunities in trucking, Why come here? Pay? Long term prospects? Insurance? Insurance I can go along with. Others not so much. You've been here longer than I have, but you have to agree this isn't the Holland you signed on with. In any event we're both here for the duration. Good luck to us all.
I never thought of that. Point him out in the break room and I'll buy him a coffee. While I'm a little more sarcastic in my humor, you and I aren't that far apart. Anytime there's a new hire, I always stick my hand out and say welcome aboard. And any questions they have I do my best to answer. After all, once you're here, you're family. One big dysfunctional family.Maybe you should have gotten crazy and thought outside the box and asked the new fella..." That’s Me-sters in a nut shell. No different than non’s. Or, heck, our society anymore. Depressing if I gave a :: about anyone but myself & family. lol.I was actually going to say incestuous family.
I dont know whether Holland is good or bad.Hired at Joliet terminal. Start the 22nd for orientation. I decided Holland because of health insurance. I’m divorced and besides me need to provide insurance for 2 kids. I’d be saving around 8,000 a year by paying 0
Good Luck Buddy! Joliet is good as a road driver, lots of freight, they should keep you busy. Probably the worse parts I can think of for Joliet are, you always get out late, you get paid from your departure time so if they call you in for 10 and don't get out till midnight you do get paid the 2 hours. The other is being critical of people, which I really don't like to do, but hear it goes; the Joliet dock workers are terrible they are a bunch of lazy gang banger types, Mark behind the window is a heart attack waiting to happen, you'd be hard pressed to find a guy who is wound tighter and lastly your steward has no lack of hot air! Good Luck to You! See you around!I’m aware of companies gimmicks. Free health insurance because it’s teamster. I’m actually at smaller LTL company now and pay will be better along with free health insurance so where my situation is right now it’s kind of a no brainer. I’m also aware of pension but I have investments elsewhere so not really dependent on it.
What tolls said. Good luck and safe travelsGood Luck Buddy! Joliet is good as a road driver, lots of freight, they should keep you busy. You have no clue what your talking about when it comes to Holland. So please say nothing at all that easy you don't look like a idiotI dont know whether Holland is good or bad.
But nothing is free in life. You pay somehow.
Its like sign on bonuses. If co is great, co dont need to pay sign on because employees are encouraging new hires to join.
Central Transport offers $15k sign on why? Since drivers avoid that co.
Free insurance probably is paid for by lower pay... so you probably are not ahead.
Its probably a gimmick that works on some people.
Just like high pay or OT after 8 hours sounds great... but unlikely to ever get OT. Probably will get less than 40 hrs per week.
Again, not bashing this co but looks like every co has a different strategy or "perk" to hook you.
