Yellow | 5 More Drivers laid off at COL!

CGB has been that way forever. I just don't know how guys can go through their career thinking that stopping for lunch and coffee breaks is a bad thing.

Maybe they got tired of sitting there drinking coffee watching the senior "good union men" blow by them and get ahead of them on the board?

The point of taking you breaks is so you don't lose them. anyone arriving within an hour of each is sent out in the order they were dispatched on a lay down. If you're so tired of "good union men" go be a s***.

First, if you don't have breaks built in to your running times you should push for them. Then when someone doesn't take a break and gets out before he should've you can file runaround. Once the Company has to start paying it'll start to police this.
I'd sure hate to work at a terminal where the road operation was one big race every day. You'll get old way before your time doing that.

1. Things are a little different where I work, and you get sent out in the order that you come in when returning to your home domicile.

2. Personally, I could care less. I eat lunch and I'm not in a hurry. But anyone who wants to cry that I ran over them might as well kiss my azz, because I'm going to be walking away from him anyway. I'll do my part, but I'm not loading up 100 guys in my phone and calling the senior guy to see if its OK for me to finish up and go to bed. You come to work, to WORK! You get more than generous break times. There is little excuse to spend 4 hours passed out on the side of the road. There is NO excuse for a bid man to do it (if you know what time you start every day).

3. How exactly can you blame the junior guys for trying to keep up with the senior men? The biggest offenders in my area are bid guys and people with 10+ years in the union. The "do as I say, not as I do" crap don't fly with me. Here, if it's a junior guy, these limp ***** are screaming for his card, but when it WAS one of their buddies, "well, he got yelled at, thats enough". Screw that! The guy was reseting his logbook on 34 hours rest. He knew better, but he figured his kids neede food more than my kids I guess.

But what do I know, I'm still laid off.

KR,
You're right...some of the senior guys don't exactly set a good example. If that guy was doing the 34 hour reset people could've filed for runaround there too. Also, that's why wheel boards suck...they promote the racetrack mentality.

Sorry I misunderstood what you where trying to say. There are alot of guys at CGB that B*tch about those of us that actually take breaks.

That's why I tried to steer you to KCM way back when. Too bad you were already on probation in CGB at the time.
Some of the guys I run into from there aren't much different. But most of those guys are sleeper drivers, and I will say that there are alot of sleeper drivers that wouldn't make what they do if they actually logged legal and followed work rules.

Hi Ralph,
It's been a while since I have been able to disagree with you,so here goes.First when we are dispatched out of Buf to Cgb we are to be dispatched back in the same order.I know that I am senior to you so it really does not matter if I get back home before you, because whether I am on a destination bid or a system bid I will go out ahead of you. So for you to say that senior drivers are running around you when you take your breaks does not hold water.I can only speak for myself here, but I really don't give a crapp what you or anyone else does.I have enough taking care of what Jerry is doing ,let alone ,what everyone else is doing.Yes there are days when I do take 2 hrs. and there are days when I don't.I don't do it to screw anyone, and if I thought that it would,I would take the breaks as afforded by the contract
Do we have guys in Buf that are "greedy" of course we do ,but we have them every else if you read these boards.
I'm sorry that you are laid off,but I would rather be laid off than have to be obligated to them for a days work. At least when your laid off you can find something to do to pay the bills and feed the family.I know where your at,I've been there many of times and I have somehow managed to survive. And now after 38 years in this racket I aquired a few years seniority I have to here remarks from guys like you,I earened my seniority and I will excerisise it every time I can and when the day comes I'm sure you will too.
