The most pay between 7% to 16% of there incomes on just car payments. This does not include gas, maintenance and insurance. Don't forget on average they have 4 credit cards and carry and average debt of around $8-$9k with an interest rate around 19%
Yet all these Dems that want single payer say capitalism is bad yet they all made there money using it. If you want to really drive down the cost of healthcare then a free market with competition across state lines. Think of what you auto insurance would cost if only one company was allowed to sell in you state. My wife insurance company web site has area were I can compare my out of pocket cost, (have an HSA now thanks Obama). If I go to the local healthcare chain that runs the hospital or the hospital itself a CT scan which my wife has had cost over $1600 OFP there but if we driver 20 mins farther to a private provider it cost us around $700 OFP. Why is it cheaper for the same service at a private provider and why is the Hospital so expensive? It a real easy answer.

We all want it to improve. The problem we have is with the freeloaders. Were my wife works has had people there go to part time because they were going to make to much and lose there govt assistant. That's BS. Section 8 has become a life style. Thats the problem we have with any kind of single payer because those who don't pay into the system are the ones that tend to draw on it the most.
