XPO | Sic Sold

One huge thing Jacobs is not doing is investing in equipment ! Our lift gates are so , so outdated . Tractors have high , high miles with many issues . Still running old junk Sterlings that look like sh*t , customers asking why are you running junk that looks like that ? Rusty wheels , broken Faron’s . This is the image you want our customers to see ? This is how we attract good drivers ? XPO is becoming a joke ! I do not see any other LTL in my area running junk like we have . Trailers are newer , liftgates are all new , most tractors are newer and look decent in customers eyes .
At my location the liftgates are old and should be overhauled or replaced. The rust on them is incredible.

On the plus side there are no Sterlings on the property. As I stated in another post , tractors are being red tagged for money reasons not mechanical reasons. It only took since 2006? to phase out the Sterlings at my location.

This is part of how he keeps the O/R so low. He claims it his “technology” that is doing it.
It’s all about presenting to investors. I have been saying for years now . He is nothing but a salesman looking for other people’s money.:regretful:

This "technology" cost $600 million a year according to news reports and SEC filings from XPO. $1.2 billion every two years.

What's not clear is how this "technology" investment is spread out over the different business units. Also , how much money does XPO's competitors spend on technology?

It's different at our barn, haven't seen a Sterling in a few years and our oldest truck is 8 years old with 800000 miles. We have 4 liftgates the oldest is 10 years old but in good shape

Lots of ltl and other companies lease their building, FedEx is one of them. I highly doubt electric trucks will make diesel obsolete in 5 years. Bradley isn't doing anything that other ltl have or are doing

An electric costs twice as much as a diesel. But makes up for it in two years. No fuel. No DEF. No exhaust system or regeneration. Much less to maintain. Obviously. Not going to be applicable in an OTR scenario. But the things got to charge for an hour after three hours on run. Pretty ideal for many of these LTL runs. And city work.

Have you seen some of the YRC stuff?

So he's not investing in new equipment.... I'm not sure were you are in the system but last I knew when new trucks are given out, they are given to your region and you Regional Manager decides who get what. So maybe you need to call him. At one time we had a regional manager that gave most of the new trucks to his one FAC and everyone else got the worn out junk.
Early this week at the FAC I got into my 2019 tractor with a 2018 dolly and put my dolly in front of a 2018 trailer and went and hooked to a 2020 trailer for my lead.
The one thing I have seem is less and less dollies with those junk ass Simplex fithwheels and seeing more and more with the Holland fifthwheels one them.

I think it's funny that your customers seem more worried about the equipment then what there freight looks like. When I was in the city I could have shown up in a horse drawn wagon and they would not care as long as the freight was in good shape.

and on a finial note also got 3 new forklifts last year too and were an end of the line barn.

Some would be very surprised on what some of these companies lease or rent. I have known of many trucking companies that didn't own one single truck or trailer it was all leased.

It's not funny that customers worry about appearance.

Everywhere you look appearance is not the most important thing but it can be used as an indicator of readiness , attention to detail , and pride in ones craft. The military cares about it. Professionals expect a professional appearance. Hell , at one point it was important at Con-way ( this is why there are uniforms )

If you look like a fool , guess what people may think about you.

You can't say that. Right now all the liberal what to stop all coal, natural gas, and nuke power plants so how will these trucks get there charge and what will be the cost of the electric if you can get it. I heard that you could cover the state of Texas in solar panels and still won't have enough power to run the NYC subway system

We spend to much time judging people and companies by there appearance. I seen my share of well dressed dumb asses.

I agree

The video I posted addresses the costs to charge an electric semi versus a diesel one.

Lol all I can say is your lucky ! Our newest tractor is a 2011 . Do have one new forklift . Seldom see any new trailers . Most all of my regular customers are used to getting damaged freight from XPO at least once a week . So they see what I drive in with and shake their head . WOW you guys have some junk tractors compared to all the other LTLs ! I say oh yes, they take real good care of us . At least I have power steering ! Slow , very slow and steady driving a piece of junk = money in my pocket . Especially when I break down . Which is often the the gem I drive . One of our guys never did one delivery today . By the time they got his truck going the boss man said strip your trailer and go make a few pickups. Good times , good times !
