XPO | Little Stuff...

Now you finally got lucky & found a spot in the truck stop to park. Not an easy feat now days. You are in you 2nd hour of sleep & these 3400 horses’ parks next to you. It is 5° below. Now you know he is gonna idle all night & about 1000 rpm. Ya knock on their door to complain, but they can’t hear you for all the engine noise. You complain, the truck stop manager tells you it’s a free country. Finally you contact the local Airport Authority Board complaining about the local noise abatement ordinance. This gets you nowhere. Ya can’t move for you are out of hours & the on board recorder will show the violation. What do you do? Von.
Go to sleep in about 3 minutes when that thing runs out of fuel.

Earplugs, that's what I use to do

I let the guy run that monster all night. For one he has some big balls to park a 7 million dollar truck in a truck stop.

I've been on Truckingboards for years and am not a a grammar police type of poster. But , it makes it hard to know what in the world someone is trying to say when they seem like they are typing with a broke hand in the back of a cement mixer in a bouncy house.

I might be on your side or like your ideas , but how will I know if it's incoherent and you don't give a damn to fix it or bother to try. It's just up to the readers to figure out what you meant?

Oh well , enough ranting ...I know , I should block whoever if it bothers me.

More tractors that are perfectly fine being red tagged.

Out of curiosity , how does this increase savings? An accounting trick no doubt.

So who is Jacobs target buyer? Bezos doesn’t like him and is building his own Trucking fleet. Fred Smith doesn’t need another ltl purchase. Upsf doesn’t even want the ltl is has and nearly shut it down last contract negotiations. What about Walmart?

Who can tell what Bradley Jacobs is up to?

My guess is that he's playing a waiting game. He's trying to wait until the next severe market downturn. From his history , you can figure he would rather buy than sell.

With a market downturn his options grow ( in my opinion ) he can continue chopping and slashing everything and falsely raising the Operating Ratio. Simultaneously he can try and capture market share for the LTL without having to do much if a large competitor doesn't make it through a downturn.

I personally don't believe he really wants to break apart XPO Logistics conglomerate. Since they've been in control of the LTL , stories pop up conveniently at the right time to boost the stock price. If these stories could be traced back to Bradley Jacobs it would be illegal ( pump and dump )

Anyway , I think Bradley Jacobs is just stalling and stringing folks along until he sees an opportunity.

If you guys think about it, red tagging perfectly good tractors is a smart idea in this economy. Tractor orders are being cancelled left, right and Center from large carriers. Makes sense to run your older units as long as it’s viable and filter in your almost new units as needed.

The shop that services our tractors retired a 2012 because it was going to cost too much too fix. So they unretired a 2006 Sterling to replace it. Glad I still have my Sterling key!

Our shop takes good parts off retired units to rebuild other ones. The latest push I’ve heard is fuel mileage (again) and they want all linehaul driving automatics! Which is it?

Fuel mileage. Most drivers I know just drive to deliver and pick-up freight.

The place where they think there's some savings is idle time. So now there are lists up of drivers ( by employee number , no names ) ranking your fuel consumption. P&D drivers lumped in with linehaul. Medium duty tractors lumped in with light duty tractors.

If it's cold outside , I expect a driver to keep the truck running to stay warm. If it's hot outside , I expect a driver to keep the truck running to stay cool. This is the driver's office where they do business for the company. That's the cost of business for the driver to be comfortable ( just like the rest of the folks in the office all day )
