Gaf sent out 369 loads by contractors in the month of Dec 2019 alone. I wonder how many were contracted out in 2008? I wonder if the drivers on lay off appreciate how the company manipulates the ( one way freight ) verbiage in the contract? Lay off bargaining unit drivers but still hire and use owner operators!!! Go figure. This is the first year Gaffney has laid off drivers since 2008.
It's a ****ing joke.. Union told drivers in 2008 Contractors would be gone if Teamsters were brought in. In 2008 Gaffney had 140 road drivers, Currently have 77...Gaf sent out 369 loads by contractors in the month of Dec 2019 alone. I wonder how many were contracted out in 2008? It's all about dues, not the members.Where I live UPS Freight uses contractors for city p&d. I bumped into a guy whose been there less than a year. He told me he's not working every day which I found odd since I still saw contractors doing city work at the same time. A few days later I bumped into another UPSF city driver whose high in seniority. He told me they leave the bottom drivers at home some days while they still use contractors. I couldn't believe the UPSF contract doesn't have something in it that would prevent that from happening. He said the company just has to say they don't have enough available equipment and it's allowed. In the past the teamsters union would never go along with something like that. Hell, they would never go along with contractors no matter the situation. It seems today they allow anything no matter how it affects the people they represent.
In my barn and a few close by if they don't have a tractor or elog and they tell you to stay home you get paidWhere I live UPS Freight uses contractors for city p&d. Could it be HRS has more contractors than any other terminal? I believe strongly the Company has been manipulating service lanes for quite a while to justify contract carriers. As far as retention on the cartage side, the pathetic progression and lack of benefits factors in. IMHO of course......It's Interesting how some barns are so slow they have people laid off but other barns have guys on dock bids that went over 100k last year and will hit it this year.
Hrs Cartage side can't keep workers , hours are pretty much opened up.
On a dock bid I hit 16k as of Friday more than I ever hit as p&d man in 7 weeks.
We have nobody laid off on road or Cartage
Oh yeah it's starting wage/progression keeping guys away for sureCould it be HRS has more contractors than any other terminal?
