Here is the language in the Reddaway white paper contracts concerning merging into YRC Freight! I wonder if old Ernie knew this was in there?

So any idea how long or when this language was added? I was at CFCC when ABF acquired us. As I understood it then, CFCC guys were to be placed at the bottom of the list but as it happened we were dovetailed. Either way, I was screwed as I was VERY low on CFCC list. It was at odds as to whether CFCC/ABF was a merger or a buyout. Is this language a result of that boondoggle ?

Ok, I have a very possible hypothetical question. There is a driver for Reddaway, let’s call him Jack. In this situation we’ll use a location that it will very possibly be merged with the YRC terminal, say Phoenix.
Jack started for Reddaway 20 years ago. He worked at a non union terminal and 5 years ago, he transferred to Phoenix. Now, he joined the union right away and is still a member today. He is only allowed to bid his terminal seniority right now which is 5 years.
When the merger happens, Jack is able to dovetail. My question is will it be at the 5 year terminal seniority or his 20 year company seniority?

For purposes of start times, and work, you are dovetailed in with your Five Years at that location, but for benefits like vacation, your total time as an employee is counted. This means unless there are a ton of employees with less than 5 years seniority, you may well end up not getting the kind of work you want, or your preferred start time, but your Vacation time will be counted from when you hired on, in this case 20 years.

So, if all the workers at the Salt Lake City terminal were to sign cards, when they merged, they would keep their seniority that they have now when they dovetail?

Their years of service would dovetail with the Yellow freight roster if they complete a card check and win a 50% + 1 count. They should contact the Local BA and find out if a card check is still available to them due to the western contract being under an extension.

The union has nothing to do with your hire date and are simply using fear mongering to get more members. Bob Stone went to the town hall meeting in Salt Lake at the union hall and when it was said by the IBT that non union would endtail unless they joined the union before a merger happened, Bob stood up and said that’s not true. That was from the then president of Reddaway

My understanding was this would be true if there was not a contract available. I don’t know for sure.

Yeah...that's what the IBT told some Florida Clericals from Carolina Freight when ABF bought them and endtailed them and the NLRB Ruled against it and theu were then dovetailed.

Back when they merged Yellow and Roadway to create YRC back in 2009, the Roadway clericals in Akron and Cleveland were non-union, but they were union at Yellow. Clericals at Roadway were too scared to join the union so when they closed RFO-257 in Richfield, and moved the breakbulk to 211-Copley in 2010, the Roadway clericals were made to endtail. They had a chance to join for years before and should have before they merged those barns, but in the end only 1 clerk endtailed. The rest either took non-union jobs at the Akron General Office (AGO) which closed in 2012, or they quit. The change of operations committee will have the final say on dovetailing and endtailing.

Keep in mind....Florida is a RTW State.

They were Teamsters, but not all Clericals in some terminals were a Union shop.
It was my understanding that if the majority of workers at the merging barns were union, they would stay union, with the non-union workers endtailing but keeping their company seniority for vacations.
In my opinion, the Reddaway, Holland, and New Penn hourly workers who are not yet organized should call the Teamsters and get covered under a contract ASAP!
