Rumor has it that the DOT audit at CGB is not going well. I was talking to one of the Stewards and he said one of the safety guys was asked to resign. This comes as little surprise to me as fudging logs is a common practice here, especially among teams. From what I hear the results will be released when the DOT finishes with all the terminals it has been reviewing.

I wouldn't expect a lot of changes if it doesn't go well. The same thing happened at TMC not so long agao (2 yrs. I think), and all they did was have classes on logging, created a logbook dept. that audits drivers logbooks, and they electronically monitor their trucks via satellite.

The logbook dept. basically catches the mistakes before DOT comes in to audit them again and give the driver the chance to correctly log that day. Then there's "the" guy that comes in at night to review if drivers are going over there 11 or 14 hours and is supposed to shut you down if you are. Does it happen? Only if you're pushing it and trying to get home. Now, if you're hauling freight and trying to make both you and the company money - well it's okay then.

I worked for TMC just for a short time, but kept in touch with the guys that I went to orientation with - all of us new drivers. Most of them are still there, but I was the first to see the light - basically flatbedding wasn't for me and there's money to made elsewhere.

D O T audit

As Teamsters, there is no need to faulsify our logs period. Our contracts, supplements, and negotiated work rules make this very clear,if one takes the time to read them.None of us are perfect and at times we do make an error, and thats one thing. But when we have people that do it just so they can get another trip in and screw a brother, thats something else, and they deserve what they get,and I have no sympathy for them.

I sure hope the D.O.T. comes to COL and audit us because we have some guys here that like to run 650+ miles. Also like to run over there 11 and 14 hours. Then maybe are linehaul managers will start doing their jobs and kicking the dipatchers in the rear.

I hear what your saying there and would love to just jump on with you too. In theory, your right, there is a contract, supplementals, and white paper agreements etc. That brings me to the point we all know very well... The gate keepers do not allow most to have that in writing and/or access to it usually EVER!!!

As teamsters, some of us starve to death because other teamsters are soaking up 6 punches and ot every single day they work too. Forgive me if I speak with venom and I do not direct this at you either. I simply am speaking out loud here.

Live better and work union.... yeah if you have another full time NON - UNION job on the side!

Finally, this one guy I know is a teamster and has his CDL through a trucking school. However, he has less then 1 year driving experience. Therefore, he must go throguh 140 hrs of his own time while working his on-call schedule to be able to drive for Yellow. At the same time, NEW hires in the same situation are sent to finishing schools for 3 weeks and then allowed to drive for Yellow, same terminal too!!!! As a teamsters???????

These guys hold BIDS OVER these same teamsters that are forced to go through 140 hrs..... As a teamsters??????? As GATE KEEPERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hide:

I'm not sure I understand what you are talking about. Could you reiterate

Yeah it is kinda :shit:ty that some soak up all the work they can while others don't work. However every single one of those guys has been where you are. I don't know your situation, but if you have to have a fulltime nonunion job on the side, you probably are living above your means. Now I am single, but when I can keep busy I put away all the money I can, so I'm ok when it slows down. That means not having all the toys I want but I get by.

Management loves this because they can play one guy off of another. Because some of us refuse to run like this, we get the short runs whenever they can get us with them, but I refuse to run like that.

hate to say it guys
but drivers who constantly violate the 11 & 14 rule will not learn until they have an accident when thy are in violation
then the company will fire them
the dot will fine them
then if there is a lawsuit involved they will be sued personally by the company in order to recover any losses due to their gross negligence
only then and only then will they learn
the only problem there is always another a**hole ready to do the same thing for a couple of bucks
it ain't even worth it but they still do it
hope murphy's law catches up with them though"at the most inopportune time bad things usually occur"
