Yellow | "Brand Adaptable Trailers" & "Dual-Use Tractors"!

placarding and mix matching equipment for dual company use is a waste of time
these companies pull other company's trailers all the time
would be just a waste of money to rebrand everything
ask ccx what it is costing them to repaint and relogo to conway

we better watch out for the intermixing of core and premium service freight as opposed to this crap
abf is already playing games with cartaging PSE freight with non unions
they are attempting to claim now any expedited line haul freight moved by linehaul and pse employees is still core freight
this is another issue for another thread
roadway and yellow seem to be much slower in entering the pse market but it is coming for sure

How about when your leaving to go on a road trip with a old peice of iron and in pulls a city man with a brand new line haul tractor!Man that burns me up!He's running around town making P&D'S and you have to drive five hundred plus miles in something that should me in the smithsonian.

Hi,
Check the registration packet card in the tractor. As I understand it, a few years ago, the city tractors with Ill plates were registered for 55,000 pounds.
I'm not sure about that now, but it's worth checking out.
I think that would be your way out of a pos tractor and your way to clock time waiting for a linehaul to come back in. Also, the 60 series of tractors still have the ac running, but I doubt it's been recharged.

hey guys in my neck of the woods the speed limit is 55
in yours it may be 65 so how can we have a national agreement telling us to break the law
governing tractors is up to the company it is their equipment
my understanding is that it is governed for safety reasons
Ok, now I am confused. The agreement is that the equipment will be capable of 62, we are still responsible for complying with the law. There are places where the speed limit is 20. According to your argument they would need to govern the tractors at 20? On a related note, I looked at one of the rebrandable trailers in the ready line at STL last night. According to the registration, it is a Yellow trailer.

i was referring to highway speed limits so get real
the contract may call for governing at 62 that is because the police usually allow 10mph over the speed limit b4 they bother you
so don't be confused:1036316054:

Contractually, the A/C has to work to use in linehaul operation, regardless of year model... The older VN's (the 13's and the 15's up to 158__) have a "tattletale" mounted under the hood, on the firewall, on the drivers side that monitors the operating condition of the a/c system. There is a red and a green light on the "tattletale" and a legend on the front that explains what the light flashes signify (your looking for a slow flashing green light. Anything else, refuse it!). A really handy gadget to check when you're about to leave the barn and ride the range in mid-July...:flame:
It may blow cold sitting still on the yard but when you throw the coal to the boiler and get moving, that a/c can take on a whole different attitude!

The Volvos also have an intake air filter under the hood behind the air cleaner. When this gets plugged up, you get reduced air flow from the vents because the blower is pulling a vacuum. If the a/c is close to low on gas, this can lead to freeze up.

When both show up, a Holland driver sneaks in a takes the thing-- that's who has all the freight anyway.....

I was curious and checked the numbers to see if it stayed in our system or not. 131000 series-- still Yellow. I'm curious about what color the dual use tractors are......Yellow's SwampHolly Orange, Roadway Blue, or Holland Orange, as many of the 50995 series are??????? That could be a hint of the future of the companies????????

Roadway's blue is called George Washington Blue

Also mentioned was dual-use of the Yellow and Roadway tractor fleet, utilizing linehaul power in the city during the day, and city power in the linehaul operation at night! Maybe someone should explain to Mike that a lot of our city tractors would never make it running the road, day and night! Then there is the additional cost of licensing, maintenance, etc. Mike said it is critical to controlling fleet expense as well as the capital expenditure outlay of Yellow and Roadway.

Most of the city P&D rigs are crap compared to the LH units. No way that idea is gonna fly the way I see it.

Plus most P&D drivers have thier units set up thier way and dont want LH drivers messing with thier rigs.

What a clusterf@#k !!!

You mean CON-way dont you? :biglaugh:

most non unions don't govern their units at all
fed ex and conway blow by me all the time like i'm standing still

Not acutally....I thought that too until I got a faster rig one night and passed them at 68 MPH.........when they pass us at 65 MPH, it just looks like they are blowing your 62 MPH doors in.......KK

I know company power units have to have the companies name on the doors, but do the trailers have to have any names on them?
Can't companys just haul plan white,or gray trailers with no company names on them?

I remember when CF had metal signs rivited to the trailer sides, but when Conway which was CCX started hauling the CF trailers with the vinyl signs, everone at CF saw what was going on.
All that was needed to remove company signs was a hair dryer to melt the glue.

If I were you guys I'd keep a sharp eye on Yellow, and their tricky ways of operating with companies they buy out.

At least you have the Teamsters union to keep them some what honest in dealling with their sly ways.

pulled a roadway your way 53' yesterday. its final inspection sticker from the factory read 5-22-07. looks as if yrcw is not going 100% on dual use trailers.
