He sure is a happy looking guy. Looks very kind and generous, you know? Takes his job seriously I bet? And ALWAYS watches out for his fellow employees.

Yeah, he looks like he just got it shoved in him by the DOT....

Or maybe he just got done givin that B Graves the big suck for his efforts.....glad Im done in a coupla months

I'd say this may of been a picture taken at a truck rodeo seeing he is waring a tie.
What trucker would have to ware ties if they weren't getting on their sunday best for rodeo pictures?

I knew a lot old school road man that wore ties including my dad. Those were real road men given the roads and equipment they had to deal with!I have to laugh when i hear guys crying about trucks they have to drive today.

yes, I can remember seeing a few road drivers in those types of jackets and they wore ties. Not too many, but some did. The jackets always had the company name/logo on it and they wore those types of hats also. Haven't seen those hats since the 60's?
As for the equipment, I often think about that as I drive on my trips. They had terrible equipment AND terrible roads. 2 lane roads hat went right thru the center of town and through many cities. They would get behind some slow driver and never be able to pass. That had to have been rough!

Yeah, so what's so much different now?

How about power steering,A/C,air ride seats and cabs, cruise control, just to name a few.You must be a rookie.Somebody ought to sit you down and give you a little history lesson on the history of trucking and how it evolved to what it is today.

I know first hand we used to have some real junk to drive back in the day.
Compared to now-a-days.
No power steering, some of those tractors you had to stand up,and have a real good grip on the wheel to make sharp turns with them.

Now as far as the union road drivers back in the day.
They always had a city driver,or yard jokey doing their hooks, and unhooks.
they just got it to the destination terminal, and walked away.
When they came in to go out they just had to jump in and go.

I got my first Teamsters LTL job back in 1966 in case you are woundering what I'm posting about.

Also airconditioning was a foreign term.
Some tractors had little dash board fans pointed toward the driver with all the widows open.
Yup this was the dark ages of our industry.
I'd never want to return to those days.

:hysterical:You gotta be kiddin me junior. I started in 1974 at Interstate Systems, and they had some world class junk, todays junk is just more modern, power steering and AC, you're right....nice, until you've got to take one of these heaps to the so called "major shop" in the middle of July. Air ride? What the heck good is 24000 lb air ride when you hardly ever carry that much. I thought the 10 macks rode better than this wanna be Ford stuff. These dang sterlings ride like buckboards.

I wrote the book of the evolution of the trucking industry. I'll have to tell ya Darwin is rolling in his grave because he never had a chance to weed out a few more bad genes from the trucking pool.

If I were a rookie......oh never mind.....I dont want to resort to a rule 2 violation.....

Have fun on your run.
