this is the first company i've ever worked for that couldn't afford jakes, pretty sad considering the mom and pop companies i've worked at could pull it together for equipments sake

Do you really think they can't afford it?

Jakes are becoming more and more illegal for use everyday, so why spend the $$$. On a primarily city tractor.

Road trucks have a better arguement for them though.

HUH????? If it were a city tractor we would not be having this discussion......And the money you save on the engine brake is spent on brakes....

It also seems our company can't afford to buy air bags for our trailers.
Fedex,and Conway have trailer airbags.
Why airbags, well just maybe our trailers wouldn't bounce around so much.
giving our freight a better chance of getting to our customers standing up straight the way it was picked up from the shippers.

They always cry about freight claims, and say they are looking for ways to get it to ride better.

Well I'll admit I'm not the brightest bulb in the lamp.
But I know if you pack something in a stiff box,and hit a few pot holes whats going to happen.

Oh well I know I'm just preaching to the choir on this sibject.
We drivers know what the deal is,now if the people that purchase are equipment could wake up,and get it right.
maybe we'd have fewer claims from bouncy freight.

Apo, if I show up at a customer with the freight in good shape, they'll want to go over it with a fine tooth comb. They expect it to be trashed. I don't think they'd want it any other way. Or they would use someone else for sure.

UPS standard issue; Spring ride on all equipment. Jake's now and then, no radio, heated mirrors. Passenger seat is included. Seats are covered with a brown material that has no match for toughness. You can not wear them out. Good luck with your recent highly outfitted trucks. Hope you keep getting them.

So then MB Whiplash you sound like you work in the equipment purchasing department.
Which would have you come on the UPS Freight forum on the truckingboards praising our fine equipment.

So all of us drivers will be happy we have this stuff.

No just worked for big O a while back and now for UPS. I know what you have and what we would like to have. I keep telling these guys that the money is nice but it aint every thing. Put some towards driver comfort. Spring ride ?????????

liftgate trailers

I was in on a conference call last week and our region is getting 12, 48 foot 12 foot high Great Dane lift gate trailers. Our TM asked for three of them. If we are lucky we will get one.

Here in Richmond we got 3 new 48 foot trailers with liftgates and 1 40 foot with liftgate:smilie_132::smilie_132:

You see this company is so braindead. These 48's with liftgates are NFG in tigh residential area's or office park condo's where parking is tight. Common sense would say put a couple 28's/12' high with liftgates in production for each terminal.

I agree, 48' trailers are only good if you have freight to put on them, otherwise we are masters at hauling sailboat fuel.

With some of the city's here in the northeast that are not 48' freindly, it would be nice to atleast have a 40' trailer with a liftgate, I was told some 38' single axle city trailers are comming down the pipeline has anyone seen any?

This company "O" does not have any jake brakes that I know of. Some of the new tractors have exhaust brakes, Not even close to a real jake (Jacob) brake. And if they did have real jake brakes in them the repair cost on equipment would go up not to mention accidents would also go up as most new drivers don't have a clue as to the proper use of one and when to and not to use one. (wet roads, ice, snow covered roads)
