ODFL | Common Road Courtesy

Both you gentlemen have a p/m.

Sorry JimBob, Let my temper get the best of me. Doubled up on BP meds this week, I'm good now!! Greenhornet, to answer your question I have been driving truck for 20 yrs. and I stand by my opinion as it seems some others here do also.:1036316054:

To be honest, I just don't even bother with most of them anymore... If a driver is passing me and seems to be a good, attentive operator, I'll blink him over... Unfortunately, most aren't even paying enough attention to stay in their own lane as they're passing you...

And I'll second that about the hi beam flash at night... Extremely rude and ill mannered...

and not to mention, just plan dam
stuubit!!!!!

I don't work for OD, but I'm just dropping by to reply on a very good thread. It would seem to me that the lack of courtesy directly correlates with the quality of drivers on the road these days. I would say that all LTL and private carriers require professionalism from all of their drivers. Sure, there are always exceptions to this rule and you'll always have a jerk that doesn't care about anybody but himself. Now take the TL, independents, and contract carriers. These days they will hire anybody with a pulse, and that's exactly the quality of drivers they get due to the ridiculously low wages, poor treatment, and lack of home time. With the economy, corporate values, and Mexican truckers the situation will probably only get worse. There are exceptions to every rule and I'm not saying that ALL companies other than LTL's are hiring a lower class of drivers, so please nobody misconstrue what I'm saying. Every segment of our industy has it's share of professionals, but it would seem that some are lowering the standards.

What I find amusing is the guys who pass and either wont come over because you didnt flash them or the ones who dont use their turn signal to make some kind of point like no flash no turn signal as if their is a law you must give them a blink

Talkn about moving over...how bout when you take center lane for an oncoming truck...and then he paces beside you and won't let you back over?

How about the ones who speed up as if to pass then slow down and hold hands with the truck in the next lane it puzzles me while traffic backs up

Probably one of my biggest pet peeves, same with the guys you catch up with over the course of 10 minutes and won't back out of it for 15 seconds so you can make a quick, safe pass. I've had drivers from my own company do this to me..

There are still courteous ones out there, but they are becoming harder to find. Here's a fine example in a quick 2 minute video:

This is great! i always peddle for someone I see catching up to me but as pointed out earlier no thank you or anything. And it's everywhere even your fellow drivers at the same company will do it to you. They see your lighter, faster etc but hell no your not getting around me lol

What you'll see out here is one of ours or another LTL having a hard time dragging his pups through the crosswinds and when you try to pass him in your truck thats pulling better he's able to speed up because he thinks your'e there to block the wind for him regardless of how much traffic is stacking up behind thereby exposing both of you to a complaint to the safety department.

That video was taken just east of Ellis btw, must not have been any WaKeeney winds... :)

Did you ever hear of the p/d driver that wouldn't give his tractor up ? He had been there many years and knew the man from the git go.So they put a new motor in and he kept it for many more.He retired with over 40 years and has since passed.A real nice man Mr.Willie Fuller.

Thats great to hear for an oldtimer. We had a driver at our location call corporate to see if we could keep her tractor from being sold. Didn't happen.... The 03's are starting to be sold now.

In the end lets all try to be a little more curteous to our fellow drivers. I even try to do it in my 4 wheeler with trucks because I see a HUGE lack of respect for truck drivers when in comes to 4 wheelers.

I had a driver flip me off this past week going thru the construction zone on 20 in Ms. i was doing 60 in a 60 mph zone and when it went back to 2 lanes he came around me with his dome light on and flipped me the bird. thru the zone he was tailgating me the whole way thru the barrells.

I was going through a construction zone on HWY 19 in WV a car was on my bumper and lights in my mirror I tapped my brake lights didn't work then 4-way flashers no luck finally came out of it and it was a local sherriffs unit. Well kind of made me think but I wasnt speeding and I suppose he could have found something. But I thought law enforcment was supposed to be profressional also.

I don't see lack of courtesy as much as otr guys, but i run in the city mostly. I have a 2 ton with gooseneck. In town on the highways other trucks will flash me over and i do the same, and i am younger than most if you guys probably. Courtesy isn't gone totally, just not add many people are courteous on the road.
