XPO | 2 XID drivers fired

2 drivers from Sidney were fired recently. They got caught up in a D.O.T. check. 1 of them forgot his log book and the other didn't have his last 7 day logs. Both of them recieved tickets and Con-Way canned them. Sounds like a B.S. reason but with CSA2010 on it's way alot of other companys are doing the same thing.

listen folks you haven't seen anything yet.

every driver knows that they are supposed to carry his log book if he forgot it he could have got one at the fac he was at and filled one out the other driver knows he has to carry 7 days prior the question where was his 7 days
getting fired was there own fault not the company's

come on lets blame conway for the drivers not taking responsibilty for thier own action

give me a break

There is more to it than meets the eye.

Much much more...people here don't know the half of it.

This could have been resolved in a manner conducive to everyone...company and driver alike.

Instead the company decided to terminate two long standing drivers with years of service.

Plus there is the question of the integrity of the TM...(who has none!!!!)...

Con-Way had an opportunity and chose to pass it by.

Would have done wonders for the overall morale of the enterprise was to have handled things differently...but no...in typical Con-Way fashion...just kick 'em to the curb...why pay you top scale when we can hire replacements for less wages/benefits?

They could have said...

"Yes you goofballs screwed up...and yes these are dismissable offenses...however considering your years of service we will forego the dismissal...but there will punitive measures (fill in the blank)"

Doing something along those lines would have went light years in improving morale...letting the drivers know if they made a mistake it wasn't game over.

Didn't happen. Those two drivers are done.

These events are proof positive. The Townhall Meetings with Doug S. and Bruce (Loser) M's. rhetoric is little more than lip service with little or no substance and comittment.

A smoke and mirrors dog and pony show for the benefit of of the rank and file...

Need more proof?

Return the remaining 2.5% then jack your insurance premiums out of the park...more than wiping out your return....and this is the second time this has happened in the recent past.

Integrity and comittment?...don't think so....how about lies and deceipt.

Con-Way has in the past and still continues to think the people who work for them are idiots. They have demonstrated this time and time again. They believe everyone (other than them) are just poor non-degreed slobs who are too stupid to know better...therefore we can tell them anything we desire and they will swallow any lie.

The bigger the lie...the easier the sell.

All the current hoopla is BS...they know low morale is costing them money...other than that it would be '**** off'...

Dougie...Brucie...Craigie...and all they spew is just so much BS.

And for all the KoolAid drinkers...where is the proof?...other than talk...and talk is cheap! Where are the definitive measureable actions that would define the company's comittment to the current trumpeted mindset?....

Answer...there aren't any...and there never will be...

Dougie is trying save his job and fortune...other than that you are not a second thought.

Run!...Forrest...Run!...

Get out if you can....(and even if you can't)...

This is only the beginning of a long and painful decline and eventual demise of a once great company.

Sad...Very Sad!...

Lets just think here for a minute, no log book and not logging for 7 days. Now lets crash and burn, I would think they got off pretty easy. With that many years they should of know better. Ya think?

Take a look around you and you will see what Con-way did for you. Your house, car, truck, family I'll bet your a 6 figure senior driver with a rotten attitude taking the money to the bank. It's people like you that will destroy any company you work for.

Rat is a good name for you...It shows your intelligence!

give me a freakin break. All you ever post is negatively bias OPINION. Where is your freakin proof? You want credibility? prove something... anything that you continue to rant about. I need a glass of KoolAid to wash down this BS

Two guys go through a D.O.T. inspection without H.O.S. basics. Were they put out of service? Did the company have to transport replacement drivers out to the O.O.S. driver's and equipment? Did the drivers receive any D.O.T. sanctions or suspensions? Were these the first infractions for these drivers or one more in a pattern of behavior? You don't have a freakin clue and it's none of our business anyway.

Rat is a good name for you...It shows your intelligence!

The things you mentioned were not provided by Con-Way. They were purchased by me....paid for by me...and are owned by me.

Monies earned for services rendered are simply a means to an end...

I have not destroyed the company...they did that all by themselves. The blame lies squarely at the feet of the CEO and his apparent lack of oversight of the goings on at the freight division of Con-Way.

I simply point out the BS.

Some here on the boards don't like that. Too bad.

The company created this Frankenstein piece by piece...and expected the employees to pay for it...over and over again.

Nothing was ever enough...more...more...more...for a whole lot less using the economy and the obvious lack of jobs as a bully pulpit.

The company is on head hunting mission as evidenced by their handling of the two XID drivers. They have also proven in these actions things I have saying for a long time...

"You don't matter"..."your years of service are of no consequence" (and therefore garner no respect)..."the decision these idiots make and how they affect the employees and their repective families are not so much as a second thought"...

And they are willing to kick anyone to the curb at any time without the slightest hint of conscious...and then pat themselves on the back for job well done....amazing!

This is not an 'employee friendly' company...neither does it provide any conducive reasons for the employees to give a damn.

The biggest gripe I hear from people all over this company is the lack of good people available for hire...and when they do hire they don't stay. Once these new hires see what actually goes on in this company they want noting to do with it...and who can blame them.

Lousy work hours...unappreciated efforts...constant never ending micro-managment...and that ridiculous assinine out dated methodology called a flex board.

Then adding insult to injury the grand screwing they get for insurance coverage as new hires...another mind boggling and stunningly ignorant decision.

I don't make this stuff up...its all out there for the observation.

I just refuse to accept the company's insulting presentation of these events...case in point. Colin Braun and the Nascar Mustang. These idiots had the nerve to tell the employees the ROI on this would be well over $3.00 for every $1.00 spent...well before the kid ever started the damn car for the first time!

Then there is the $100-$130 million dollars that the company was supposed to save as a result of the takebacks of April 09...where the hell did that money go?....not to mention the bogus claim of the $9 million in fuel savings as a result of cutting the trucks to 62 mph...another BS story.

Nascar and Rousch probably got a large share of it...and the employees paid for it... in lost wages...stolen vacations...a dead pension plan...and suspended 401K matches.

So now Dougie and company are running from terminal to terminal holding their town meetings trying to save what little is left of a once great company...too little... too late.

Nothing is going to change for the better...not anything of susbstance...just grandstanding and soapbox speeches that mean zilch. Once the meetings are done they will return to the palace...congratulate one another and declare the problem solved without costing the company any 'real' money.

"Another successful snow job...are we good or what?"...

Meanwhile the company continues to implode and the employees' faith in those from the front office continues to erode.

BS is just that...regardless of the steps taken to disguise it.

Game over.

Dang Rat,I'd love to see You go toe ta toe with em'. Bottom line, there's the door, you don't like it ,use it. I'm just keepin' a low pro till i can go,cause i'm all out of more, as are most of the senior peeps at my barn. what a MESS !!!. I am truly sorry for all who have to stay on and make it here. This co has been cuttin' on us since earl 90's. I really don't see it commin' back. It's not what they say. It's what they do.I'll do my job, but my heart's not in it.They lost me.

Regardless of what you or I think...there are thousands of people watching this.

They are wondering what would happen to them if they were placed in that same position...some with many years of service.

Once again the company has demonstrated the lack of respect and regard it has for the people employed therein.

People make mistakes...some worse than others.

Just don't do it at Con-Way or your :moon2: will be gone.

The company had an opportunity to promote engagement...they weren't interested as they were inconvenienced...and that isn't tolerated.

They believe this gives notice to all of what could happen if another makes the same mistake...high school principal management tactics.

The reality says different...it just further justifies the fears and doubts of the employees...continually eroding the confidence of the average Joe...knowing all they do means nothing.

These diatribes about how they failed so miserably and need to be let go is just typical Con-Way management answers justify their refusal to recognize the human condition and the frailties associated with employing people...not the little tin soldiers they perceive exists only for the benefit and profit of Con-Way...and the bonuses of the leadership.

The company hired real people...and must accept and recognize the benefits/problems those hirings imply...

The peeps at the palace are under the misconception they are the one who make things happen.

They aren't...

Its the folks on the street and in the trenches that make this thing happen...however the losers in Ann Arbor being so full of themselves will never understand it.

And so it remains...employees see the reaction of the company regarding a mistake and the ensuing termination of the accused and wonder about their own security or lack thereof.

Another missed chance to promote engagement...amongst many. Tells me the company doesn't give a damn whether the employees are engaged or not...as long as they perform like the elephants in a three ring circus.

Long on talk...short on action...zero results.

Niether driver was ticketed, both of them were put out of service at their inspection. The terminal had to send someone to pick them and the equipment up. Both lost their appeal. Surprise surprise.

Amen Rat! And I totally agree, Conway didn't pay for a thing we have, my husband EARNED it with by the sweat of his brow, breaking his back for years and believing in a rainbow at the end which has turned out to be fake lights. Too old to start over.

After more than a decade of watching knee jerk disciplinary reactions for the human side of busineess. (A.K.A. being human) the status quo continues. This is not surprising to observe and I would expect nothing less from a socialist mentality business model. Remember that fat beard had Chinese diplomats visit and actually drive a set around a service center. One of the comments made after this visit was why did many of our employees look older. So this seems to all add up...........High school kids and driving school graduates learning the freight business and drawing claims up with the fault being directed at the seasoned employees. Thanks for not letting us down Conway! We all feel engaged now.

I'm still looking for the person that knows the details of this situation. I'm sure we have all seen our fellow employees do something that we fully expected them to get fired for and it didn't happen. In general, people don't get fired for one infraction, especially not like this one. There is obviously way more here than meets all of our weren't-involved eyes.:coffee1:
